Best Director 2016
Will we see a random nom like Bennet Miller's for Foxcatcher? Well, probably not.
Right now I'm thinking:
Barry Jenkins (Moonlight) Damien Chazelle (La La Land) Martin Scorsese (Silence) Kenneth Lonergan (Manchester by the Sea) Ben Affleck (Live By Night)

Re: Best Director 2016
He couldn't get one for the similarly well-reviewed Sicario. Not sure he'll get one for a sci-fi-flick, especially after they snubbed Ridley Scott last year or Nolan for Inception.

Re: Best Director 2016
Feel Pablo Larrain is in. Yes, Jackie is centered around Portman's performance, but the reviews make this more comparable to Capote and The Queen than say Theory of Everything.

Re: Best Director 2016
Seems like Jackie could be director friendly as well with some reviews praising the visual style and it not being a conventionally made biopic

The difference is Arrival is actually a pretty good movie unlike Inception or The Martian. Hopefully that counts for something.

Re: Best Director 2016
I agree with the doc's lineup, but replace Ben Affleck with Jackie's Pablo Larraín. With Denzel in the immediate runner-up slot.

Re: Best Director 2016
Larraín isn't happening. But Denzel probably is.
Jenkins, Chazelle, Lonergan and Scorsese all seem extremely likely.

Re: Best Director 2016
This is getting more and more interesting.
Chazelle, Jenkins and Lonergan are in. The remaining two spots are up for grabs. I still think the Academy will nominate Scorsese for his passion project. The final spot will either go to Villeneuve or Mackenzie.

Re: Best Director 2016
Garth Davis has a chance to get in as well as Lion could be one of the five strongest films in Picture, plus the history of nominations for directing kids is pretty good
