We're in October; time to make predictions. My current lineup:

Arrival
Fences
Jackie
La La Land
Loving
Manchester by the Sea
Moonlight
Silence

Other possibilities:
20th Century Women
Nocturnal Animals
Sully
Lion

If Captain Phillips and Bridge of Spies got in, I don't see how Sully can miss.

Is The Founder not in contention? Everything about it seems muted at this point, but it could gain traction between now and the Oscars.

Arrival is 100% on RT (46 reviews) but only 80 on MC with no 100s

What happened to the Birth of a Nation?

The controversy itself aside, I've heard that the movie out now is different from what they showed at Sundance (apparently there was more ancestors-asJedi-holograms stuff). The reviews took a dip in the past month and maybe it has to do with such differences.

I think it might get some technical nominations but all the new developments regarding the film in the last 3 months killed its chances in any major category.

I think for most regional/critics circle awards where it's down to 5 noms, we'll see:

Arrival
La La Land
Manchester by the Sea
Moonlight
And a wildcard #5.

Arrival
Fences
Jackie
La La Land
Lion
Manchester by the Sea
Moonlight
Silence
Sully

I think Hell or High Water can sneak in there too.

Oh god please no Sully nomination.

Birth of a Nation will probably not get any nominations.

I think right now:

La La Land
Manchester By The Sea
Moonlight
Arrival
Hidden Figures
Jackie
Silence

Not sure about the others.

I'd be shocked if La La Land didn't win.

If it were not for Gibson's past hacksaw ridge would be a contender. Critics seem to overlook his past but i doubt the academy will.

Oh man, there is so many potentially great films for me still to catch this year. It might save the year. The Girl on the Train, The Accountant, Hacksaw Ridge, Live By Night, La La Land, Bleed for This, Gold, Fences, Arrival, Allied, Kidnap, American Pastoral, Desierto, and In a Valley of Violence. Really looking forward to these.

Seen four of those and only one was great.

From the guy that loved Doctor Strange and only anticipates Rogue One in December, that's no surprise.

I never said I only anticipate Rogue One. The question was which one I anticipate most. I anticipate about a dozen of December releases.

You can't turn in any direction at the moment, without being berated to see Moonlight.

(Which makes me all the less eager to see it.)

This race sorely needs a mainstream movie in it (in addition to Arrival). Otherwise it will be a snoozer of an Oscars. I'm hoping Passengers gets in if it's great.

Sully was a good movie, but there wasn't anything special about it.

I think one sci-fi film for the Oscars is enough. Silence, La La Land should each at least approach 100 million. And never bet against Denzel in Fences.

Didn't he get a 10 minute standing ovation Venice Film Festival? I would be more surprised if it didn' get nominated.
