Both are forgettable, though Boyhood was certainly more enjoyable.

Neither Boyhood nor Birdman were worthy.
Of the nominees, I would have picked Grand Budapest Hotel - but the true best movie of the year was Paddington.

I really dug Grand Budapest as well. Number two for me that year.

The Best Picture winner for me should have been Interstellar. But I would have been DELIGHTED if Paddington won. I have so many movies I would choose ahead of Boyhood or Birdman or Grand Budapest Hotel for Best Picture winner, though I thoroughly enjoyed all three as well.

Paddington was very traditional. I don't quite see what was so groundbreaking about it. And it came out in2015 unless it had an awards qualifying run.

Re: One Year Later: Boyhood should have won BP/BD
Crash is very good; just a nice flowing film with message that sticks. It's in my top 100. Argo yeah, not ground breaking but good, not an undeserving winner either. Haven't seen Spotlight yet. Boyhood, Birdman, Budapast, Interstellar all would deserve to run for best picture, but I'd finally wouldn't just pick either. But anyway, Paddington is so far out, it's just average. It so does not belong in this thread.

Re: One Year Later: Boyhood should have won BP/BD
2014 was pretty lit with The Raid 2, Guardians and John Wick. A shame that Birdman will represent this year for the remainder of time.
Whiplash and Boyhood were the best of the nominees.

Re: One Year Later: Boyhood should have won BP/BD
If nothing else, this decade has seen two of the most memorable (if undeserved) awards race upsets in Kings Speech over Social Network and Birdman over Boyhood.
And in both years other nominees such as Whiplash and Inception also would have been deserving winners.

Boyhood should have won nothing. It's just an overrated piece of crap.

Boyhood was an average film, but it was certainly better than Birdman.

Re: One Year Later: Boyhood should have won BP/BD
I'm not particularly sure, but I think I'd have to go back to 2000 where my best film aligns with the academy's best. There's so many films released each year, with everyone having their own taste that calling a BP win deserved or not an endless discussion really.
