Where Do We Go Now? is such a random, random winner on that list, heh.

Haven't seen that one, but Nadine Labaki's Caramel was a good movie. It's good foreign language movies win these things too.

That's not my point.

I made my own points based on your one. Doesn't have to be a narrowly direct reply, does it?

Martin Scorsese's Silence is now in the race. Rest can go home now.

After seeing Birth of a Nation I'd be surprised if it ends up being big on Oscar season... but after the whole Oscars So White thing it probably will get in
.

I think the Academy itself is not going to give a crap about #Oscarssowhite, what will matter is whether the studio will lobby hard enough for it, and given there investment I'm inclined to say yes, however then you have the Nate Parker thing, which means they might just not do it.

The Academy have already proved that this isn't the case. They've made a major shake-up in its membership.

birth's reviews have taken a noticeable dive since that news a month ago. I ultimately think Oscars will walk away from it, but I also think Moonlight and/or Hidden Figures will have enough success this awards season to make up for it.

Oh, interesting. I did not know that.

Interesting to see Oscars campaigning explained to people who didn't know anything about it. Also love the nominees

Ana DuVernay's Netflix black incarceration documentary 13th is currently 100% on RT. It would add to the Oscars So White make up year to make it the first documentary Best Picture nominee.

I feel like Disney will put on a big campaign to ensure Lupita gets an Actress nomination for Queen of Katwe. The film is 90% on RT and her performance has been universally praised as excellent.

The Jungle Book I think will get several tech moms and wins. Visual effects should be a lock.

Word seems fairly mixed, bordering on negative. People seem to be complaining a lot about the high frame rate. La La Land's march to the podium continues unabated.

I see more complaints about it being dull. It uses flashbacks to tell the story. The cast is apparently very good. But it may not get seen by enough Academy members in its desired format. A screener will apparently not do it justice. So don't expect to see it on any lists this year. It might feature somewhere just because it is Ang Lee, but I really hope not.

Billy Lyn is DOA. I never looked all that good but the tepid reviews and the high frame rate has ensured it's a dud.

Fences screened tonight and, needless to say, we can engrave Viola Davis' name on that Supporting Actress Oscar. This is a Jennifer Hudson/Anne Hathaway situation. And Denzel could be in the hunt for win #3.

She's singing a killer song in a long awaited adaptation of a beloved Broadway musical?

Yeah. Ang Lee well and truly techied himself out of the Oscar race.
