I think De Tavira is 2nd most likely winner after King. The rest needed to beat Blunt at SAG. Ali winning also means there's no pressure for King to win to have a black winner

I still think Gaga has a shot at Actress. Literally no one watched The Wife. Sure, no one watched Room, Still Alice, or La Vie en Rose either but those films seemed to have way more hype and a hook for the performances. Room has a really memorable plot and role for Brie Larson and the movie was talked about. Still Alice was about a disease and it had that 'awareness' angle. La Vie en Rose was about a famous real life person. Whereas no one is talking about The Wife and no one knows/cares what her role was, it has zero presence even among the film cognoscenti.

Sure, Close got SAG, but SAG also went for Emily and she wasn't even nominated. Perhaps there is not as much overlap as we think anymore considering the Academy let in a ton of new people over the last few years. Globes are irrelevant, there is zero overlap in voters and they're just a promo opportunity with no prestige to everyone in the industry.

Close or King will win but not both.

How do you know what the Academy watched or is talking about?

I don't think the Academy members or most are going to care if they've seen the Wife or not. I think they think it's just her time to win. She's had a long career. She's already won three major awards. They are going to be checking her box out of completeness.

I was wrong last year, but I got 4/4 in 2016. Lets's try this again.

I feel like it took one day for this to be outdated. Laura Dern beating J Lo in New York Critics Circle is not a good sign for her

I originally thought her but I thought her role ended up being nothing special after all.

I was 3/4 if you go by the Globes but I definitely still think J Lo can upset Dern, especially considering 4 white winners won't look good.

Didn't think J.Lo was going to win, but to not even be nominated outright, whew.

It seems like Dunst is the biggest shoo in right now.

Nvm, I forgot my rule that a black actress is winning this like 50% of the time to keep the twitter vultures away and they went Dern and non-black minority the last two years. Ellis as the mom in King Richard makes perfect sense here although I think Dunst still has a chance.

Hmm, we know the Academy isn't allowed to nominate fun movies anymore, but we've seen instances of Serious Dramafilms benefitting from genre films in the past. The biggest example is Alicia Vikander winning for The Other Woman but really winning for Ex Machina. So .... if a certain actor whose name I'm not allowed to mention for another week, who is in a Netflix musical titled after a Saliva song, happened to also star in the actual most popular movie of the year could it lead to an upset of Big Will at the big show?

The problem is Cumberbatch also has this advantage

Given the awards circuits it feels Smith isn't the frontrunner but he will win at Oscars which is unfortunate for Cumberbatch because he has been consistently great for quiet a few years now.

Dunst is out. Hopefully Hinds is snubbed because there were better performances this year.

Stewart is the true lock this year.

Supporting actress will go to Wallis or Debose.

After seeing King Richard I feel pretty good about Smith winning, the Oscars tend to appreciate physical acting (like DiCaprio and Phoenix's wins) and the way Smith walks etc. really adds to the character

Welp. There goes Kristen's frontrunner status. Baffled she missed SAG.

Yep that's really weird and it seems after Golden Globe she will miss the nomination itself. Jennifer Hudson though is a real surprise nomination.
