McAdams is the spoiler in Supporting Actress because she's in the only Best Picture nominee, and it's a frontrunner at that. There is a precedent for this sort of performance winning this category (Kim Basinger in L.A. Confidential: also the only woman in a heavily male cast in a touted Best Picture nominee).

For what it's worth, I also think Ruffalo is the spoiler in Supporting Actor.

I do think the race is ultimately between Vikander (ugh, The Danish Girl) and Kate Winslet, though Supporting Actress is definitely the most open acting race. You could present a logical argument for any of the five nominees winning (though I don't believe JJL is really in the hunt, and ultimately I don't think Rooney Mara will be either).

Interesting. It seems it is much more common for a Best Actress winner to come from a non BP nom than it is for a Supporting Actress winner to come from a non BP nom.

Usually, yes.

Chastain, Julianne Moore, Amy Adams, Isla Fisher are nice looking redheads though (I had to google whether they were real gingers though).

Finding a nice looking ginger is like a needle in haystack however.

Looks like supporting actor is once again the most vulnerable. I don't buy Nocturnal Animals winning an Oscar but I guess there's still time for someone who isn't Ali or ATJ to win. With that said Moonlight winning at least one major category is the PC thing to do

To me Actress is most locked of all categories. Emma Stone will not be losing any awards where actors are part of the voting body rather than critics or journalists.

Some LLL spoiler reasoning why critics don't vote for Emma Stone as much as other voting bodies:

* acting body will vote for her for obvious reasons
* directors, screenwriters, and producers will vote for her due to relating to her failed experiences with the one-person show where she self-directs, self-writes, and self-finance
* critics on the other hand don't see themselves represented by her in the movie; besides possibly internalizing the only voice even resembling a critic's POV overheard saying how horrible she was.

Yeah count me in on the Emma Stone is heart palpitation inducing hot in that pic bandwagon. Beautiful.

Not sure if they are natural redheads or not but Chastain, Isla Fisher and Amy Adams are all stunning.
