7 noms for Inglorious Basterds is fantastic. That equals Pulp Fiction I think.

Lets hope the madness stops and Hurt Locker beats out Avatar.

It'll be Avatar or THL taking home the hardware ... though I'm just not sure which.

The Hurt Locker got a Score nod which nobody thought it had a chance for, and Avatar missed Screenplay and Song. Hurt Locker's winning.

Isn't Avatar going to win BP? It's made too much money to be ignored, like Titanic.

One thing going against it, it got no nomations in the acting nor writing categories, and no film since Grand Hotel has won BP without nods in those categories.

IB actually had 8. It also got Cinematography, which isn't listed in the first post for some reason.

Yep both are tied at 9 a piece. Neck-to-Neck though I think so Hurt Locker is going to loose a lot of technical awards.

Actor and Original Screenplay are sure for The Hurt Locker to loose.

Whereas Avatar is going to take Visual Effects for sure. though Art Direction is not so sure

I agree with the snub too. The ending was too predictable, and some of the writing was corny. Yes, I put it in my prediction cause I thought the Academy would be dumb enough to nominate it, but good thing I was wrong and they got smart and nominated better scripts.

This looks like Hurt Locker is going to win big and Avatar is going to end up with highest number of Awards

Avatar was never in contention for screenplay. And Oscar has weird choices in songs. They rather go for 4 songs from the same movie despite them not being really good. I don't think that these two categories were ever a big play for Avatar's BP bid.

I'm hoping for a repeat of scenario from awardsdaily whered both Avatar and The Hurt Locker lost BP to IB from the votes of the readers. It would be a wonderful ending for the evening. :funny:

It would be, but it ain't happening. I'm just hoping for an Original Screenplay win.

Oops I think so I somehow missed that. Thanks for correcting me out. Updated the Original Post.

Inglourious Basterds now stands at 8 nominations just below 9 nominations of The Hurt Locker and Avatar

No, it's out.

Why? It received multiple acting nominations as well as Director and Picture.

Plus, unlike THL, people actually saw it and unlike Avatar, it has acting nominations.

The Hurt Locker getting score and tying Avatar for the most number of nominations shows it's way out in front in the BP race, with Avatar the only challenger. Missing Editing killed any remote chance Up in the Air had left. Inglourious Basterds did well in techs, especially in the sound categories, but it needed a surprise nom in acting to state its claim.

Great to see District 9 making BP, but scratching my head over the fact it missed makeup and both sound categories.

Inglourious missing out on Costume/Art Direction really hurts it, imo.

Indeed. I cannot watch the film anymore.

Surprise noms I'm happy about...

Anything for District 9.
Bright Star for costume (if you've seen it, it's a gimme, but it could have easily
been overlooked)
Harry Potter for Cinematography

Snubs/noms I'm not happy about...

Lack of love for Bright Star and Star Trek in screenplay, picture, acting
No Zoe Saldana.

Oh, and WAY too much love for UP.

UP is definitely winning Music Score. Last year Wall-E was snubbed for Slumdog they are not going to make that mistake again. Though it is great but I think Avatar should be given the Score because without the background music the aliens should not have flown better ;)
