What is weird is that both Rachel Weisz and Michelle Williams lost. Neither has gotten an extra push here to perhaps show us who might win at the Oscars.

Best Supporting Actor - Jake Gyllenhaal, Brokeback Mountain
Best Director - Ang Lee, Brokeback Mountain
Adapted Screenplay - Brokeback Mountain

Gyllenhaal got the boost he needed to win the Oscar, Witherspoon and Hoffman seem more than locked now, and Weisz is probably winning too (she'd have won if she was supporting, I think)...

I'm just surprised to see Geisha winning Cinematography (and losing Production Design to Potter), against such strong competition...

the rest was kinda predictable, in a good way for the most part...

Gyllenhall is in prime position now. Best Supporting Actor is so up in the air. George with the Globe, Paul with the SAG, Jake with the BAFTA. And I wouldn't count out Matt Dillon either.

Yeah, the Best Supporting Actor category is certainly getting more and more interesting.

Thandie Newton's win confirms my opinion of that she was snubbed for an Oscar nom! :nonono: She was much better than, say, Frances McDormand.

Personally, I don't think so > no Oscar effect > the Brits just screwed it up starting with not putting Rachel W in the supporting category.
