Post 11 Films to Compete for Best Animated Oscar
Eleven films are eligible to compete for the Best Animated Feature Film Oscar in the 2004 Academy Awards competition.....

.....The eligible films are:

- Clifford's Really Big Movie
- Disney's Teacher's Pet
- Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence
- Home on the Range
- The Incredibles
- The Legend of Buddha
- The Polar Express
- Shrek 2
- Shark Tale
- Sky Blue
- The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie

Under the rules for this category, a maximum of three films can be nominated in a year in which the field of eligible entries numbers at least eight but fewer than sixteen.

The eligibility of all the films is subject to receipt of the Official Screen Credits form, and for four of the films—The Incredibles, The Polar Express, Sky Blue and The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie— eligibility is subject to their opening in Los Angeles prior to December 31. All four films are scheduled to open within the eligibility period...........

I'm all for animation, but I'd glad it's going to be another 3 nominee year. 5 would have been stretching it.

Just as long as Shark Tale isn't nominated, I'm happy. :)

It won't. :) With the reviews The Incredibles(glowing) and Polar Express(good) are getting, the three nominees are pretty much set, unless Polar Express really bombs in the box office.

It'll be an interesting fight between Shrek 2 and The Incredibles, but I give the edge to Pixar's newest.

I'd give the edge to the Incredibles, by a mile.

Not that it was a better movie (though it was), but, the original Shrek won in 2001. Teh Academie Oscar doesn't like awarding sequels. Though it could be different with animation, I think the Academy will award originality (in plot...I'm not saying that some of the scenes in Shrek 2 weren't clever, because that's not true) and give it to Pixar, again.

I wonder if either of them can get nominations other than Animated Feature. Screenplay will be the most likely choice, since both Shrek and Finding Nemo got it.

I know. But it's strange to see a 2004 movie competing with 2005 ones.
The same goes with "Spirited Away". In that case it helped!! It was originally in 2001, so it had the chance to avoid direct Oscar competition of "Shrek" und "Monsters, Inc".

A smart move that was. Spirited Away definitely deserved the Oscar and I am glad it got it. Howl's Moving Castle would not have survived among The Incredibles and Shrek 2, but it might have a better chance next year.

Um, yeah it was released this year. I don't think it will be nominated this year though.
Shrek 2 will probaly take the award for this year.

Lecter was talking about has there ever been any "hype" around the Ghost in the Shell 2, not whether it's released.

By "one" I meant the hype, not the movie. I know that it is out. ;)

I do believe that Ghost in the shell 2 had its cult hype. Other than the factthat spirited away was known for its massive 200 million japan number, they both carried the same hype .. an animation that rocked in its own way.

ya, there was some minor hype for Ghost in Shell 2....

I think Incredibles will put up and incredible fight.... but it might still go to Shrek 2, it defintely had the love and media frenzyness of Nemo and original Shrek proportions. The Incredibles really doesn't have much buzz. Glowing reviews, but not much excitement!
