I saw it when it first came out and I watched it every couple of years just to see if me maturing would make me enjoy it more... Nope, it's legit junk. I've never understood why everyone loves it so much.

LOL :funny: It's easily the best of any that came out since then. It also has what may be my favorite Nicole Kidman performance.

So they're paying tribute to shitty musicals, rather than including Moulin Rouge? Well, considering Les Mis looks shitty as well I guess that kinda makes sense. I literally fell asleep like three times last time I saw the trailer with nearly bald Anne Hathaway having a stab at singing.

So, you fell asleep three times during one trailer with waking moments inbetween? Hmm

It's a really miserable trailer.

I'm surprised Zadan/Meron passed up the chance to include Hairspray.

The exclusion of Moulin Rouge does not surprise me, I guess. They did say movie musicals of "the last decade."

Though, going by that logic Chicago would just miss it since if their end year is 2012 (Les Miserables), then the starting year would have been 2003. Chicago was released in 2002. But that's too much thinking required for Zadan/Meron, when this musical tribute is just so they won't be outdone by the James Bond tribute.

Daniel Day-Lewis will be there. Surely he is interested in reprising one of his numbers from Nine live in front of his peers and an international television audience.

For Lincoln to move ahead again, it needs to win SAG Ensemble and WGA. I tink it could still lose DGA and yet win BP, if it wins the other two.

For Argo, it needs to win DGA and either SAG Ensemble or WGA. If it wins one of the latter two additionally to DGA, it is winning BP.

Silver Linings Playbook needs to win WGA AND SAG Ensemble, to move into frontrunner position.

IF Lincoln wins DGA, though, I beleve it will become the frontrunner again.

However, don't get me started if crazy shit happens like Kathryn Bigelow winning DGA...

This is the most bizarre Oscar race ever

It's funny how we all assumed Lincoln was the frontrunner, despite the lack of any precursor awards.

I think even if Lincoln wins BP, it's pretty clear now that it won't sweep the top 5 categories it's contending in. For screenplay, it's definitely trailing Argo and Silver Linings Playbook, and the director is a weak link too. Could end up with just Actor and Supporting Actor.

Think this will be a year where no film wins more than 4, maybe even 3.

Waltz muthafuckas, do you speak it!

Seriously, I would not give Tommy Lee supporting actor when Hoffman, Waltz, and De Niro are also in the mix.

Even though the season is still unusual, it is now mostly as predictable as any other year:

Argo
Daniel Day-Lewis
Jennifer Lawrence
Tommy Lee Jones
Anne Hathaway

Best Director at least still has a bit of suspense with Affleck not nominated.

The theme of this year's Oscars:

I'm still not completely sold on Argo, the Academy, whilst made up of guild members, is still not the same thing. Look at the dramatic differences between the Best Picture nominees and the PGA nominees, but more importantly, look at the differences between Best Director the the DGA noms.

This ain't over.

Also, don't place a win marker down for Tommy Lee just yet.

Yeah I'm not going to totally bury this BP race, for the reason that Apollo 13 grabbed PGA, SAG and DGA and still lost - and because this year has already proven to be really weird. Also if either Lincoln or SLP wins Best Director and 2 acting categories, that's pretty powerful. There could be a situation where heading into the BP announcement, Lincoln or SLP is absolutely dominating with Director, Actor/Actress, Supporting Actor and Screenplay, while Argo has just editing or something.

Crazy weak category, IMO, compared to Best Adapted.

Okay, Django is good, though not one of Tarantino's strongest screenplays. I hate everything Wes Anderson (except The Fantastic Mr. Fox). Amour might be a good film, but I do not believe the strengths lie in the screenplay. Flight? Puh-lease. And Zero Dark Thirty is also solid, but the screenplay is one of the weak links, IMO.
