Man this was disappointing. The energy in the trailers isn't in the movie. Josh Hartnett does what he can with the material he's given but the execution of the film is just off. I'll give it to Shayamalan that he sure has some strange moments and acting in most of his movies... lol

Post Re: Trap
Hartnett’s back and this is easily the best thing M. Night’s made since…The Sixth Sense/Unbreakable? M. Night’s clearly been trapped at a lot of concerts that his daughter has dragged him to. All that time being bored out of his mind backstage and in the luxury boxes, dreaming up scenarios while she sang her heart out to Taylor Swift. It has absolutely been worth it for the both of them.

I don’t really give a shit about nepotism in show business, but this is how you do it. This movie is as much of a comeback as it is for Hartnett as it is a showcase for M. Night’s daughter Saleka. I wouldn’t say her music is something I’d listen to, but she’s got a nice voice and presence. More importantly she can hold her own acting alongside Hartnett. She's pretty much the co-lead. This easily could’ve been a Sofia Coppola-esque catastrophe.

Hayley Mills out of left field!

Come on De Palma. I know you’ve got one more in you like this one. If M. Night can do it, so can you!

4.5/5

Hartnettt is fantastic and needs way more roles. This was a movie star performance.

This movie is batshit bananas. It’s also really dumb, like yelling at the characters on the screen, numerous face palming moments dumb, but it’s also engaging and pretty enjoyable throughout. Hartnett and M Night’s daughter were both great.

B at best but worth a watch

Yeah, this is rough, this is DTV outside of hartnett giving his all and some good atmosphere, the film is pretty terrible, C+. Character deserved a better film

If you convincingly lie to your neighbour, you could be a serial killer, lol.

The film is a little contrived and awkward, but I enjoyed it. I suppose the film is held together with the hope that a twist is coming or something special will happen. It never really does, but I still wasn't disappointed. The film reminded me in many ways of The Watcher, not least Josh Hartnett's similarity to Keanu Reeves.

This movie was hilarious. I'm not 100% it was meant to be (outside of some obvious jokes), but me and several others in the audience were cracking up at every suspect line of dialogue. And the way it was shot with the constant close-up framing was funny too. Made Hartnet look like a killer clown. He is equally ridiculous througout the movie, but ole Joshy throws on his acting chops at the end to say "hey everyone, I know what you think, but I swear I can still act well too."

I'ma give it a 6.5. It leaned into the absurdity better than other M Night movies, but its still kind of a mess after they leave the concert. It really could have used another twist lol.

That's what I thought at first. Like he's at the Taylor Swift and looking around like "these people must think I'm a serial killer or something .... ah ha!"

But by the end of the movie I became convinced of one thing - there's no way this dude has ever been to a concert in his entire life. He definitely adapted this movie from his daughters' instagrams.

That's just M. Night's level of writing. Dude should stick to just directing because he has a good eye, leave the writing to someone else.

Trap is a nice little thriller, it's particularly effective at the concert when Harnett is scheming for an escape route. Then the last half hour or so doesn't have the same intensity, but I like the last scene. And the credits scene is a good touch too. Harnett is good, nothing memorable, but just an enjoyable performance. And so is the movie overall, solid effort but far from a classic.

Fun thriller with fantastic Hartnett performance both as the fake good guy dad at the concert and going progressively evil, by making him hurt a few people at the concert you don't have to worry about secret twist that he's a good guy. I liked the post concert stuff because it made it feel less spoiled in the trailer and Lady Raven made for a solid hero to counteract him and her moves made sense like using the leverage that he couldn't stop her without making his daughter unhappy. The ending compared to just getting gunned down in his kitchen felt a little forced to keep him alive to fight the Split guy or whatever but that's ok.
