Trading Places
Quote: Trading Places is a 1983 American comedy film directed by John Landis, with a screenplay by Timothy Harris and Herschel Weingrod. Starring Dan Aykroyd, Eddie Murphy, Ralph Bellamy, Don Ameche, Denholm Elliott, and Jamie Lee Curtis, the film tells the story of an upper-class commodities broker (Aykroyd) and a poor street hustler (Murphy) whose lives cross when they are unwittingly made the subjects of an elaborate bet to test how each man will perform when their life circumstances are swapped.

Re: Trading Places
Surprised again to see no thread for this, I didn't remember it well having seen it before only when I was young and wanted to get a refresher on it. It's quite amusing for sure, but does not have much on the story or humor for me to be that impressed about. It actually takes a bit of a while to get going and the resolution is not that spectacular either. The middle part of the film, with Akroyd in the role as bum and Curtis being present works best. And there's some bits in the film that have some cultural impact that make it interesting to look back at. Jamie Lee Curtis may possibly been the actress with the nicest breasts at the time, and Akroyd playing a Jamaican in blackface, and the rich old white dudes' derogatory view on black people show it was a different time.

Re: Trading Places
Love this movie! Feels like its main theme still holds to this day, and is perhaps even more relevant than ever.
10/10. My #1 film of 1983 over Return of the Jedi. Landis also has a case for best director of 80s with Trading Places, American Werewolf, Coming To America and Into The Night all being terrific. Blues Bros, Spies Like Us and Three Amigos are decent SNL movies too.
