Re: I'm Thinking of Ending Things
Wow I really had to sleep on this one, because its easily one of the most baffling, frustrating and fascinating films I have ever seen. If people think Nolan films are confusing I dare some of them to watch this and tell me without doing any research in advance just went the hell is going on, because I don't see how anyone would be able to figure it out otherwise.
All that being said there are aspects of this film that I really did enjoy such as the performances, the direction and especially the cinematography. Having only seen this directors previous film Anomalisa and not having seen Synecdoche, New York which I definitely want to now I had no idea what to expect going in and after the first half or so I pretty much gave up trying to figure stuff out and just waited until the film played out on its own.
I should have known though by the time it got to the third act that I wasn't going to get any concrete answers and to me that was the most frustrating thing about this film, because out of context it just seems like a bunch of random things happening for almost no reason. I really do wish this movie was more like those scenes at the house where we finally meet Toni Collete and David Thewlis and its just some of the most awkward, bizzare, quirky and creepy interactions ever and this is where I believe everyone, especially Collete and Thewlis are all on their A game. Unfortunately, that's not the case since it is just a small portion of the film, but those great scenes alone combined with the masterful craftsmanship at work here from Kaufman are the main reasons why I can still somewhat recommend this and call it a good film.

Great performances and gorgeous visuals can't make up for a pretentious and hollow story. This went absolutely nowhere and by the end kept spinning its wheels trying to make a point it did not earn or have the right to make. I was disappointed. C

I am with cory on this one. It has tremendous performances and great atmosphere and good-to-great visuals but overall it does not do anything with its premise. The end was not earned at all.

I'm convinced to pass on this one. I thought it looked great from the trailer but honestly it sounds way too f-ing weird for me.

I loved this. Have watched it twice. I found it enjoyable as an experience, less as an exercise in figuring out "what was going on." (although I found plenty of hints throughout that seemed to give me a pretty accurate sense, despite the strangeness).

I actually enjoyed it a lot and went along with all the crazy stuff that happened but it just completely lost me during the third act, which went on foreeeeeever only to end as unsatisfying as possible.

Re: I'm Thinking of Ending Things
Yeah I was kinda into this for the first 2/3s but the ending didn't really work for me. After reading what the film is actually about I think I understand it for the most part... lol but I'm glad I didn't know beforehand as it was interesting trying to weave the film together although initially totally baffled by the conclusion.

I had to look up what the fuck was that ending and after reading about it I can say damn this movie needs a second or even third viewing.
