The Lovebirds
Quote: The Lovebirds is a 2020 American romantic comedy film directed by Michael Showalter with a screenplay by Aaron Abrams and Brendan Gall, and a story by Abrams, Gall, and Martin Gero. The film stars Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani, as well as Paul Sparks, Anna Camp, and Kyle Bornheimer, and follows a couple who goes on the run after witnessing a murder.
Originally scheduled to be a theatrical release by Paramount Pictures on April 3, 2020, the film was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic closing theaters worldwide. Its rights were then sold to Netflix, which released the film digitally on May 22, 2020. The film received mixed reviews from critics, although Rae and Nanjiani's performances were praise.

It's basically a less successful version of Date Night, but is still very enjoyable thanks to the two leads. Issa Rae in particular is hilarious. A cute, enjoyable watch. B

It's pretty much the same as Stuber, take a relatable situation and make it into a ridiculous action movie. The emotional stakes are a little higher, and the dinner scene is funnier, so I'd put it a notch above that movie though.

Re: The Lovebirds (2020)
Meh I thought this was just as forgettable as Stuber. Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani have some pretty good chemistry and some funny scenes between them, but the plot was really dumb and Paul Sparks was completely wasted here. Date Night and Game Night are much better versions of this film and honestly I'd rather watch those than this ever again.
I also really hate it when they do rambling improv comedy in these kinds of movies which just goes on forever and there was a lot of it in this movie unfortunately.

Re: The Lovebirds (2020)
As much as I like the two leads in here its just not enough for a feature length movie. Underlying story is not good enough and the love redemption arc is unearned. Also noticed a LOT of improv comedy bits that Dil mentions which took me out of the movie multiple times.
