I’d like to see the guys who couldn’t deal with Captain Marvel’s “overbearing feminism” last 20 minutes with this one.
I’m fine with that type of movie, but you can’t be a smart, so very smart, grounded in reality movie and then also have characters saying things like “being a cis-gendered straight white man is so hard!!!!” And its kind of half-assed too. I figured after all this we would end with Mindy heading off on her own, but remaining friends with Emma as equals. But nope, she goes back to work with her and brings a happy and so very diverse group of happy people with her and marries the only other person she became friends with.
There is still alot to like though, it has plenty of funny moments and a few heartwarming ones as well. There is a good story here, the writers just couldn’t figure out how to get from A to B to C without hitting their audience in the face. Loved Mindy and Emma too, they definitely are able to spin at least half of this movie from a twitter SJW rant into gold.
