Quote:
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is a 2018 American science fiction adventure film directed by J. A. Bayona. The film is the sequel to Jurassic World (2015) and is the fifth installment of the Jurassic Park film series, as well as the second installment of a planned Jurassic World trilogy. The film features Derek Connolly and Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow both returning as writers, with Trevorrow and original Jurassic Park director Steven Spielberg acting as executive producers. Set on the fictional island of Isla Nublar, off Central America's pacific coast, the plot follows Owen Grady and Claire Dearing as they rescue the remaining dinosaurs on the island before a volcanic eruption destroys it. Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, B. D. Wong, and Jeff Goldblum reprise their roles from previous films in the series, with Rafe Spall, Justice Smith, Daniella Pineda, James Cromwell, Toby Jones, Ted Levine, Isabella Sermon, and Geraldine Chaplin joining the cast.

This movie was flat-out awful, with the most palpable “this franchise is totally out of gas” air about it since Rocky V. The only positive thing to have to say about this movie is that the “drowning gyrosphere” scene was AMAZING in 3D

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

Well, it's a step down from Jurassic World. It's essentially a remake of The Lost World, with bits from World thrown in. I guess it's a typical blockbuster. A bit of fun, and nothing much more. Don't get me wrong, there are some wonderful shots and sequences. A Tyrannosaurus Rex roaring at a lion, the volcanic eruption, the lava inching closer to Pratt's immobilized body, the sinking gyrosphere scene, and the Brontosaurus on the edge of the pier as the ash cloud engulfs its existence, among others, are probably worth the admission alone. But the film isn't very exciting from both a story perspective and a film-making one. Plus, a lot of it is shot in the dark or at the mansion, and it feels like a 3-hour film. It's also rather uneven. It touches a few times on the relationship between Pratt and Howard, but forgets about that by the end, by which point it decides that it wants to be a commentary on humans.

Its closing line is bemusing. We already had Jurassic World. I see there's a double meaning, obviously, but a better line would've been "...Jurassic Earth" ... it also more aptly sets up the sixth film. But that's a small gripe.

Oh, and I didn't have an issue with dinosaurs getting "maimed and killed". Mainly because it doesn't happen. So anybody being turned off, don't worry. It's just The Dark Shape acting like a little girl. ;)

I think either one is absolutely ludicrous. There were only, like, 30 dinosaurs that got away at the end. The authorities will just hunt them down. No way in hell everybody will just try to embrace dinosaurs. If the next one does that, it will basically be a parody of Zootopia.

You know you watch too much porn when you misinterpret Pratt's reply to Howard's "be safe" as "If I don't make it back, just remember that you made me cum".

Here for the next trilogy being 'Jurassic Earth' set in a post apocalypse dystopia future where dinosaurs roam the Earth and humanity is sequestered into walled enclaves.

I honestly think this franchise should just end because I don’t want this franchise to turn into Planet of the Apes with dinosaurs.

This movie is so bad but it's hilarious and entertaining so it's hard to hate on it too much. The plot is absolutely ridiculous and the dialogue is terrible. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are good but all the new characters suck, particularly the hugely annoying Justice Smith and the little girl. There are some well-staged set pieces though and the finale actually got me excited for the next installment. But boy is this thing a campfest. B-

I'm going to be extremely disappointed in the moviegoing populace if this train wreck of a movie isn't being savaged over the coming days.

I enjoyed it. After all the mixed to really negative things I've been hearing I was honestly expecting a lot worse, but considering how much people hate the other JP sequels I kind of knew I'd have similar feelings about this one. It's weird because my grade for it is about the same as JW, but overall I do think it's a better film, especially in terms of direction which is no doubt because of Bayona. I really liked the horror/gothic vibe this time around and there are some pretty awesome shots in this like the one's Algren mentioned, but that whole opening sequence with the sub and the helicopter entering the park with a storm brewing in the background was really well done as well.

I also agree with the majority of the complaints though that the first half on the island is stronger than the second half on the mainland. I was still entertained, but the human villains that take over that portion of the film aren't very good and what's worse is that it's a waste of good talent like Toby Jones, Rafe Spall and Ted Levine.

I despised Jurassic World, so I am relieved Fallen Kingdom is far superior. Its predecessor's chief flaws are undoubtedly still present, though. The central human characters played by Bryce Dallas Howard and Chris Pratt are still rather bland, but the characterizations (chivalrous man's man! high-strung corporate damsel!) have softened considerably. There is risible comic relief. The plot requires vast suspension of disbelief. But Spanish director J. A. Bayona (The Orphanage, A Monster Calls) has made a spry and frequently gorgeous action film with a pleasantly bizarre second half: dinosaurs unleashed in a Gothic mansion is a genuine novelty five films into this franchise, and horror veteran Bayona capitalizes on the unexpected turn with elegantly foreboding cinematography and an overall air of claustrophobic suspense. The quality of his images, and his ability to conjure and sustain a grim mood, elevates this sequel so much, and it is a shame Colin Trevorrow is set to return for the next film.

I boldly predict Jurassic World 3 opens with Bryce Dallas Howard driving into the country to retrieve a beer-swilling, tastefully unkempt Chris Pratt as he simultaneously fixes a muscle car and chops wood.

These movies have deeply bought into the idea of nefarious persons weaponizing dinosaurs, but this always feels so flimsy. I don't care if B. D. Wong shakes and stirs a Maximus Severus Tyrannohellraptor...it is a lizard versus high-tech modern weaponry.

Also, at the end of this film...I know they show the case of DNA samples, etc., etc., but I am not sure Jeff Goldblum needs to declare our earth "Jurassic World" just because, what?, 30 or so dinosaurs escaped into the woods in Northern California (and a few others flew or swam away from the island).

Meh. A mostly dull and unpleasant watch. It has some nice sequences, but for most of the second half I was dying for it to end. It is similar to Moonlight in that way.

I admire them for trying something different, but they should have done the whole movie on the island. The dinosaur black market auction was completely absurd, even by absurd summer blockbuster standards.

I am glad Blue survived it all though. So it made me care a little bit, which is more than Solo ever did.

I didn't mind how the film started of at all, but half hour in maybe, I guess "blockbuster dumb" things starts happening...and sometimes that's OK for a film too, but Fallen Kingdom just lacks creativity and it's just more of things we've seen before and it becomes dull and boring.
I thought Jurassic World was a really good piece of blockbuster film making, the park is open, shit escalates, new dinosaur, I liked it. But yeah, Fallen Kingdom just hardly brings anything to the table for me to marvel at. It's still cool to see dinosaurs on screen, and I'll go see another sequel too, but the franchise is average again. Fallen Kingdom reminded me more of Jurassic Park 3 then the Lost World. Where Pineda is really nice, Justice Smith is just damn annoying. The score is the best part about the film, just overall quite meh.

I just fell a sleep for the last 5min. of the film, but if there's one thing the film needed, it was more Jeff Goldblum really.

But how could it not really, they were a thing before, I think it's totally plausible for this to have a double meaning.

The film just blows its load too early with the volcanic eruption. Nothing afterwards can match up to it, and so viewers are more likely to exit the film with a feeling of disappointment. It also makes very little use of BIG dinosaurs. The second half of the film is entirely raptor-level, and everyone wants to see T-Rex in action when watching a Jurassic Park flick. I think these are two fundamental issues with the film and why it made it so hard to be as entertaining as the first.

It does some great visual stuff, especially with shadows. I’ll give it points for that.

I don’t think the claustrophobia worked as well as intended though. Mostly because the enclosed spaces of the mansion were making it more difficult to eat the humans. The Indoraptor never felt that threatening and I was mostly just waiting around for Blue to shownup and hopefully not die. Really it is only a horror movie from the dinosaurs’ perspective. That’s what makes it such a tough watch.
