I agree.

As a Star Wars movie it sucks on so many levels.
As a basic Sc-Fi film it is fine. If even that is faint praise.

I didn't hate this as much as Algren, but I agree with many of his points. I thought this movie was super dull, and at the end of the day the whole thing is just fucking pointless, because you already know the outcome of the story which is the biggest problems with most of these prequels. I honestly didn't care for any of the characters either even Han Solo who is unfortunately the least compelling character in his own movie. I'm sorry, but there is no way this guy becomes the Harrison Ford version of the character we get in ANH. Now, I don't know if its due to Alden Ehrenreich's performance or the writing, but the dude is flat here which is kind of surprising considering I thought he was pretty solid in Hail, Caesar!, but maybe this type of role just wasn't for him. The movie does have some nice visuals as it should since it cost so much damn money to make and while I didn't mind the more brownish rustic look when it comes to the action sequences I didn't find any of them exciting or thrilling. Sure you could see the budget was onscreen, but for a Star Wars movie the set pieces should have been a lot better IMO.

As for the rest of the cast, I didn't think Harrelson or Bettany actually had much to do and so they were pretty wasted, but for some reason I was somewhat impressed with Emilia Clarke's performance. I don't watch GOT, but this is easily her best performance in any feature length film that I have seen her in. I would even go as far to say that I liked her even more than Glover who isn't bad by any means, but it felt like he was just doing an impression of Billy Dee Williams most of the time.

It didn't help that I was exhausted when I watched it, and I certainly didn't hate it as much as Force Awakens. But it was just not very engaging and felt entirely pointless. It was also by far the ugliest, least visually impressive Star Wars film to date. It definitely got better at the end, and I think it could improve on a future viewing, but it's a big disappointment.

I think this might be the worst Star Wars movie. Only one to be outright boring. I can watch The Force Awakens and at least not fall asleep. And why is there absolutely no color in the movie? Worst cinematography in any recent blockbuster.

Fucking hell, you're generous! Giving this piece of shit a B- is basically saying you loved it. Fair enough. Each to their own, but I just cannot see anything positive about it.

I rewatched this recently and yeah, it's pretty bland.

I would lower my grade to about a D now.

Im shocked David likes this. Really seems like a movie he would hate considering how he loves production design, cinematography, costumes and stuff like that.

I'm sure David will appreciate being summarised as someone that "loves production design, cinematography, costumes and stuff like that." :funny:

I rewatched this a couple days ago and eep. Just not very good.

It's well filmed and the cast is decent but it's just such a forgettable movie. I wonder how Lord/Miller's version was.

It's not well filmed at all. It has to be the among the ugliest mainstream blockbusters ever.
