The New Mutants
Quote: The New Mutants is an upcoming American horror film in the superhero genre, based on the Marvel Comics team of the same name and distributed by 20th Century Fox. It was initially conceived of as the first in a trilogy of mutant horror films. The film is directed by Josh Boone from a screenplay by himself and Knate Lee, and stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams, Charlie Heaton, Henry Zaga, Blu Hunt, and Alice Braga. In The New Mutants, a group of young mutants held in a secret facility fight to save themselves.
Boone and Lee first began work on the film after Boone completed The Fault in Our Stars, the pair having been fans of the New Mutants growing up together. They pitched a potential film trilogy to X-Men producer Simon Kinberg, and in May 2015 were officially signed on to the film. Taylor-Joy and Williams were rumored to be cast in March 2016, and were confirmed over a year later when the rest of the cast began to fill out. Filming took place in Boston from July to September 2017, primarily at Medfield State Hospital, with an April 2018 release in mind. This was then delayed for over a year, allowing for reshoots to make the film more frightening.
The New Mutants is scheduled to be released on April 13, 2018 August 2, 2019.

Disappointed that there are no 'F's for the movie yet.

Re: The New Mutants
So I watched it today and while I didn't hate the movie its not great either. There is a decent flow and some good powers are there on display but what was needed from this type of movie was the emotional punch which it fails to generate. The horror elements are decent but its not a scary movie as it could have been, possibly for a PG-13 movie. The powers are really good specially from Ana-Taylor Joy. The three female leads are REALLY good in here whereas the men don't get to do much throughout. Its a good one time watch but its too small to generate a new trilogy from it.

Re: The New Mutants
My first time at a theater since March. I enjoyed it. Different enough to not feel like just another X-Men movie. Maisie is fine but her power did nothing for me. To me the enjoyment came from Blu Hunt who was the best developed character, and Anya Taylor-Joy who easily had the most fun part and power.

Re: The New Mutants
I thought it was pretty average. Not awful or great, but I doubt I'l remember most of it in a week. Spotty accents aside I really did like the cast in this as well as the Asylum esque location, but the horror elements at play here felt really weak IMO. I didn't think it was scary or creepy at all, but I did enjoy the action sequences in the third act, especially the scenes with Anya Taylor Joy. I'm just glad these Foxverse X-Men movies are officially done, so we can move on and let Disney/Marvel have a shot a creating something truly special with these characters.

Re: The New Mutants
I enjoyed this more than expected given the buzz surrounding it and find its reception to be a bit unfair. The cast was uniformly solid, particularly the females (Anya Taylor-Joy was a blast and Maisie Williams and Blu Hunt were both very likable), and it had a great atmosphere. It goes off the rails in the finale with the CGI heavy climax but for the most part this is a solid entry into the franchise. B

Re: The New Mutants
I really like the character of Mirage and was pleasantly surprised to see her as the lead in this movie despite being way down on the casting list. New Mutants was also pretty fun as it thanfully avoided the lower ranks of the X-Men franchise (populated by Dark Phoenix and Origins) and instead falls in the the "I know this isn't great, but I'm having a great time with it" tier similar to Apocalypse. It starts a little rough and messy, and Anya's russian accent really annoyed me at first. It all comes together nicely though, just like the team itself. I would have been up for another go around with these crazy kids, but I'm also fine with freeing up Mirage to become a bigger part of the MCU (when it comes time for the "first Native American superhero.")
