Quote:
Jumanji: The Next Level is a 2019 American fantasy adventure comedy film directed by Jake Kasdan and written by Kasdan, Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg. It is the second sequel to 1995's Jumanji, following 2017's Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, and the fourth installment, overall, in the Jumanji franchise. The film stars Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Karen Gillan, Nick Jonas, Alex Wolff, Morgan Turner, Ser'Darius Blain, and Madison Iseman, reprising their roles from the previous film, alongside newcomers Awkwafina, Danny Glover, and Danny DeVito.

It is scheduled to be released in the United States on December 13, 2019 by Sony Pictures Releasing under its Columbia Pictures label.

It was ok, sometimes felt flat. The action scene with the monkeys was pretty good though.

If this one does at least $600m WW then no. It works in the winter as a summery escape.

It's pretty similar to the first as a story. It has a little more heart thanks to the DeVito/Glover friendship mending. But I was pretty checked out by the end.

The biggest problem is that they take the best part of the first movie, Betthany, and sideline her for the first half, then they turn her into a horse and then finally back into Jack Black for the ending - which is mostly action. Without that semi-iconic Black performance, I don't think the first would have been as liked, it probably wouldn't have made any kind of waves at all. So that's what this one feels like. A 2019 action comedy, with nothing to make it stand out from the crowded pack of monkeys and ostriches.

I’m actually excited for the next one, even if its a “deboot”.

What on earth is deboot?

(Er... spoilers) essentially the end shows the ostritchs from the game are now in the real world, which is essentially going back to the first one and having it come to the real world. So yeah, very good idea I thought. it'll probably have the avatars actually playing their own characters I guess.

I thought they did. I thought they still remembered the parents dying even though it's not really addressed. I thought it was hinted at they knew Williams and Hunt.

I really wasn't a big fan of the first one, but I thought this one was a lot better. Loved that Johnson and Hart really went all into to the actors they were portraying (DeVito and Glover's presence was felt a lot more than I thought it would be, and I think they got some good drama as well as the laughs. I think it'll be interesting to see if all of a sudden Hart and Black are much cooler as the actual avatars themselves. I'm in on the Jumanjiverse

Pretty close to as good as the first. Prefer that one slightly. Still nothing great but enjoyable.

7/10 (B-)

These The Rock Jumanji films are both just a bit too silly for my taste, Welcome to The Jungle was more fun because it was a bit innovative with the characters, but in this sequel it doesn't work as well anymore. The story is just not that exciting and although you can feel they're still having fun at parts and some jokes garner laughs, I pretty much forgot about it since I saw this in February.

They dial up Kevin Hart in this movie for laughs which was the wrong decision. Black was the best part of first movie and while he is in here his take on Bethany isn't. I do have fond memories of the monkey scene but the rest of the hurdles weren't as good. The last one worked because of they mystery which is brought down here to present a GoT style world without much mystery.

It’ll be interesting for the third to see how the a avatars play themselves without people playing them. Could even lead to the rock being the villain

Good not great, its just another case of if its not broken don't change it. Jack Black should have been the center of jokes and with Kevin Hart supporting him. The main characters do well but it could have been better if they would have explained the "additional" game characters. Its not as well thought out movie as the last two and the Next Level's ending could have easily been shown after "Welcome to the Jungle". Regardless I am more excited with the next adventure because that's the sequel most people were expecting this to be.
