Re: Coco (2017)
The nineteenth animated feature film by Pixar is a charming one, bringing their usual amusing-creative-wistful touch to Dia de los Muertos imagery and predictably affecting themes of family, memory, and mortality. It may be the most spectacular Pixar production to date on a visual level, with the rainbow-colored, almost Blade Runner-esque land of the dead just outpacing Finding Dory's underwater vistas. And there is a winning vocal performance by Gael García Bernal, who infuses his role of an eccentric, enterprisingly streetwise skeleton with the same comic energy and flair he consistently delivers on Amazon's Mozart in the Jungle.
B+
HOWEVER, this is no fault of Coco's, but shame on Disney for ruining the tradition of Pixar shorts and replacing it with a half-hour reminder of their juggernaut Frozen franchise. I sure was ready for the film I paid to see to begin after 30 minutes of almost entirely unfunny snowman antics.

Re: Coco (2017)
This is a great movie. I wasn't expecting top tier Pixar with this one, so I was pleasantly surprised.
The Frozen short at the beginning didn't bother me. However, I've never seen Frozen so the saturation problem didn't hurt it for me. It wasn't anything special, but I didn't hate it.

Re: Coco (2017)
COCO
One of the best Pixar films they've ever made. Honest. The music is superb. I got the soundtrack and listened to the whole thing last night and it's just amazing. The songs are catchy and the instrumental parts just flow. Benjamin Bratt was great as Ernesto. They did their own singing. Great job! Gael Garcia was great as Hector and Anthony Gonzalez popped through the screen as Miguel. I had that "I'm in awe" face for a good portion of this film. The story was great along with the family dynamic and the plot along with you know what. Finally that pre-end with Coco just kills me thinking about it and then it goes into the end end with such joy. I love what they created. Definitely have to see it again and I'm buying this when it comes out on BR.
Grade - A

Re: Coco (2017)
I was teared up through the whole second half of the movie. I legit needed a few minutes to recover during the credits. Haven't felt that way since The Raid 2 (though that was obviously triggered by a different type of stimuli.)

Re: Coco (2017)
It took me about 20 minutes to get over the sour mood left over from the Frozen short. The absurdly tyrannical rules against music also set me up for a completely different experience. But they turn that into a La La Land esque theme of needing to choose between a career and family, and music could be anything thats draws a strong enough passion. It just has a much more optimistic outlook on it all.
And while I'm not gonna say its the best Pixar film, it is the Ultimate Pixar film. They take the "try really hard to make you cry" scene and sustain it for nearly 40 minutes. I was flattened.

It’s still so good. Though I can’t imagine kids would like it very much. Very long and slow with little action or humor.

Re: Coco (2017)
I wasn’t totally feeling it at first, but everything from when they meet Ernesto on is perfect, and it’s topped off with the waterworks. The places that are laid out early on pay off really well once you realize who Hector is. It mixes in the adult themes really well like Hector’s regret leaving his family, Miguel’s parents having valid reasons for not wanting him to play music, or having a genuine murderer involved. Great Pixar.
