Despite his family's baffling generations-old ban on music, Miguel (voice of newcomer Anthony Gonzalez) dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz (voice of Benjamin Bratt). Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the stunning and colorful Land of the Dead following a mysterious chain of events. Along the way, he meets charming trickster Hector (voice of Gael García Bernal), and together, they set off on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel's family history.

A hyge homage to Mexic and its culture Nd the best holiday in Mexico, dia de muertos. It'd so goor, the climax is probably the best pixar scene ever, i cried my heart out.

Btw it's already biggest film ever in Mexico

Honestly I was ready for the worst, but this movie is beautiful. They did a wonderful job, and Im sooo glad they didn't fucked with the cultural aspect of the story.

Coco is a beautifully rendered film with a competently told cultural story, but it felt a bit long and there was only one half decent song in a movie about music. The Frozen "short" was definitely too long. *B*

(Shame on Disney/Pixar! When other companies are cancelling projects featuring the work of sexual predators or completely reshooting them, it is shocking to see John Lasseter's name plastered all over this tainted film. Those who support social media justice must boycott this film and protect their children from the work of this freshly outed molester.)

Because you want me to reply to this, I will:
Why hinge the minor contribution of an individual to judgement of the whole entity?
Doesn't make sense.

John Lasseter is was Pixar - his hands were on everything. He is the executive producer of Coco and was intimately involved in its production.

Disney, John Lasseter, 'Coco,' And The Art Of The Forced PR Spin

As to hinging in general, tell that to the casts and crews of House of Cards, Louie, and Transparent.

I still think his actual influence on the film and perhaps the company in general is debatable. I'm also unaware of whatever protection Lasseter might have had from the company to get away with his behavior. I just know that boycotting Coco is not going to hurt Lasseter, so I don't see the point.

I don't know what's so shocking here:

1. All Mexicans are rapists and crminals.
2. The producer is a pervert.
1. + 2. = A pervert produces a movie glorifyng a rape and crime culture.

What surprises me is not finding the names of Luis CK, Kevin Espaciado or Carlos Rosa in the voice cast.

Post Re: Coco (2017)
This was a great movie and had me in tears at the end. It is equal in animation to all Pixar standards and the storyline is mostly equal to Pixar's brilliant old run but its still not the home run. Its partly because it runs too long and then the music/songs are completely forgettable even the main song "Remember Me" and I got annoyed with some of the voice cast even though I couldn't recognize them. The movie is gorgeous to look at throughout and would surely bring tears to your eyes in the end.

The Frozen "short" was LONG and the songs were meh as well.

8/10

Dang. I honestly didn't think Pixar had a film like this in them anymore. I'd easily rank it among Pixar's best, and it may just be my favorite.

The film, perhaps fittingly given the day it occurs on, manages to harmoniously tell a story that's full of both hope and sorrow, simultaneously. It outright draws attention to how things that give life meaning (e.g. Miguel's passion for music and his love for his family) can be in opposition to one another, and how one has to confront the situation. The music is great; the animation gorgeous. The voice cast give their characters life, not just a voice-over. A.

this is simply a fantastic movie. sure the "twists" are predictable and there isn't much comedy or "fun". but the way it respectfully represents the culture and delivers its simple but powerful message of the importance of family ancestry and lineage is frankly missing in not just animated movies but all types of movies. also, it is beautifully rendered and has the best animation of any Pixar film to date.

I'm not sure where I rank this on the Pixar scale. I wouldn't put it ahead of any of the TS films or Monsters Inc or Inside Out or Wall-E, so that puts it at #7 at best. But given how much I love those movies and even the movies below them, that's saying quite a bit.

my biggest complaint of the film is that I think the English voice acting ruins it, particularly the songs. I would love to see the film in Spanish with English subtitles.

The first half was good, the animation was just gorgeous and the world building was strong. I felt something was missing though. I thought maybe a lack of comedy or weak character design. But once the twist happens halfway through, it’s among the best Pixar has done. The climax is really exciting and the end but where Miguel’s song snaps great grandma out of her stupor was incredibly powerful..

Totally blew my expectations out of the water. Top tier Pixar. It's crazy how other animation studios come no where close to the storytelling of a film like this.

Like Magnus said, you can see everything coming (well, almost everything), but it’s beautiful in every sense of the word. That scene with Miguel singing to Coco towards the end...

I really thought the twist made the movie and didn’t see it coming. If you saw it coming, I can’t imagine how it didn’t harm your enjoyment of the film.
