The Postman Always Rings Twice
I am not really too sure why this film is so revered. Or isn't it? Is it just a catchy title and stars Jack Nicholson, so it feels more revered than it actually is? Growing up, I got the impression this was quite the masterpiece. Especially the way my mum used to drop into conversation as one of her favourites. Then again, she was a big lover of Jack Nicholson, so I am sure she liked it more than most just by fantasizing about sweaty rumpy-pumpy with our man's man, Jack.
Anyway, it is a good film. Jack Nicholson and Jessica Lange are so intensely watchable, so pretty much anything they do is interesting on some level. Jack Nicholson has such an aura of a film icon about him. The film is made in such a classical way, and the story is good and old-fashioned in style too. I liked it. Can't say I didn't, but also can't say it's one of the greats either. Perhaps back in 1981 the sex scenes were controversial, but nowadays it is very tame. Still, I enjoyed the roughness to the lust. But I still don't get the title.
