I saw this like 3 weeks ago. It's pretty good, though far too long.

There's no penis in it. Just bare butts.

The ending of this movie is obnoxious. I'm annoyed at people saying you have to sit through it or you don't have a soul or whatever. It's an exercise in self-indulgence.

The best scene is Michael Stuhlbarg's moment near the end of the film where he gives his big monologue, which is beautiful.

Call Me By Your Name is a meditative vision of pure romantic love. Too pure, for my taste. But I appreciate what the director has achieved here. A forbidden passion amplified by the dewy Italian orchard setting in 1983 along with a swoony soundtrack. *B+*

I found the relatioinship dynamic interesting. Could've used a couple more scenes to flesh out their relationship even if the film was a little too long. (Plus it doesn't even have a proper sex scene... lame)

Nevertheless I loved it. The ending particularly (Elio, Elio, Elio, Elio...) affected me.

Also two old women walked furiously out when the two started kissing. Guess they just knew it was an Oscar caliber film lol

Ya I can see why it would be hard to buy the romance. I think i did because i thought the buildup to when Hammer leans over and starts rubbing Elio's lips to be quite well done. I never paritcularly liked Armie Hammer before but I actually thought he was terrific here.

The film says “their relationship was so special” but it never felt more than just a summer fling, which is hardly moving.

It's too bad it doesn't come across that way because in the book it's clear it's more than that. Especially with it going into the future and knowing how special it still was to them many years later. From what I hear in the final moments it's made pretty obvious it's something that will stay with them. :nope:

It’s about gays and that’s all that matters.

Oh whatever. The book/film is special to many. I've had so many read the book and it has stayed with them and the film is resonating with a lot of people. It's not just because it's gay. Just because Magnus didn't find it effective doesn't mean it's not effective or worthy of the praise. It just didn't work for him.

Wait, what? So Magnus isn't KJ's official spokesperson on all things gay??

But the fact that Magnus didn't like it (a presumably hetero male), speaks volumes of the film's potentially limited appeal because Magnus isn't biased by it being a gay film. He can surely see the film for what it is rather than what he wants it to be.

Plenty of other hetero males have loved it.

The top review is my favorite.

I'm dreading your review. I should really just check out of this thread now. :P It's pretty obvious how you'll feel about it.

Well if you didn't give that an F then maybe this can avoid it. I'm thinking around whatever you gave Moonlight.
