Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie
Quote: Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie is a 2017 American 3D computer-animated superhero comedy film based on the children's novel series of the same name by Dav Pilkey. The film is being produced by DreamWorks Animation and Scholastic Entertainment with animation production provided by Mikros Image. It is directed by David Soren, written by Nicholas Stoller, and stars the voices of Ed Helms, Kevin Hart, Thomas Middleditch and Nick Kroll, with Jordan Peele and Kristen Schaal in supporting roles.
The plot follows two imaginative elementary school prankster students, George Beard and Harold Hutchins (Hart, Middleditch) who hypnotize their mean-spirited principal, Mr. Krupp (Helms), into thinking he is Captain Underpants, a hero in comic books George and Harold write together.
The film premiered on May 21, 2017 in Los Angeles and will be released on June 2, 2017, in 3D and 2D in the United States. It is the last DreamWorks Animation film distributed by 20th Century Fox before the distribution rights of DreamWorks' animated films get transferred to Universal Pictures in 2018.

Has some amusing moments but way too childish for me to really enjoy.

I really liked this. It doesn't hurt that I read all the books as a kid and this film brought back memories (hey, I remember that! That's right from the book). I thought it was really funny and clever and I'm sad it didn't do better because the series had a lot more material from which to mine (my favorite was Wrath of the Wicked Wedgie Woman, but the Perilous Plight of Professor Poopypants wasn't a bad one).

It is too childish but some of the concepts are executed in innovative and fun manner that this was a delight to unfold. I do think its too slight for adults and might be too flashy at times for kids that do not know about the series but as a movie this works very well. I am also irked by its title because we will most likely never get the second movie.

After rewatching this, the books were much better. They smushed several books into this movie, as a result it felt more overstuffed and jokey than the books, which while comedies mostly, also had earnest and clever plots.
