The most annoying thing about Unforgettable is that it doesn't live up to its title. This is a 90s-style thriller crying out to be an over-the-top campfest ala Obsessed or The Boy Next Door, but it's largely inert and vaguely competent, which renders its entertainment factor lower. The performances by Katherine Heigl and Rosario Dawson are stronger than the types usually found in these kinds of movies, which is actually sort of the problem. They're both doing real acting in this, which helps preserve their dignity but kind of downplays the movie's overall value in a paradoxical way. C

I'll give Rosario Dawson props for giving a very good performance in what is a pretty asinine film. That said it's easy to watch, I laughed pretty hard several times (Heigl throwing herself off the stairs, the dialogue, etc.)

I just realized this is the directorial debut of Denise Di Novi, a fairly major producer who oversaw Tim Burton's rise in the 1990s, producing Batman Returns, Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, etc., before shifting to mostly romantic dramas in the Nicholas Sparks style. I guess she was an eleventh-hour replacement for Amma Asante (Belle, A United Kingdom).

It's a passable time waster. Instantly forgettable though. For what it's worth, Rosario Dawson and Katherine Heigl give decent performances. C+
