Post Re: A United Kingdom
It's well-intentioned but I found this to be an endless slog, which is a shame because I really enjoyed the director's last film Belle. It's basically another version of Loving done in a slightly different context, and reeks of Oscar bait in a way that film didn't. It's way too safe to leave any sort of lasting impact and the performances from the two leads, while fine, are nothing special. The supporting characters are also almost mustache-twirling villains in how over the top they are written, and Tom Felton in particular is horribly miscast. Disappointing. C

It was too long and even the good performances from the leads couldn't save the draggy screenplay. It is too politically focused and leaves little for comforting/warming scenes that the movie needed more. The villains/supporting cast aren't given much chance as well. The political scenes are staged well throughout.

5/10
