Its a decent thriller with a couple of twists that can been seen even before the movie starts. Monaghan does fine of the bunch but that's hardly saying much because this is far from her best. Foxx is just not convincing enough as the anchor for the movie and the stakes/focus of the movie keeps shifting from one thing to another far too frequently.

Such a generic, forgettable film.Seeing the reviews my expectations already weren't very high, but it barely registers as a timewaster. I can't say I liked it, but it does have some decent performances, especially from Foxx and Monaghan.The action is quite dull though and at times it honestly felt like a slightly bigger budget DTV movie.

Sleepless

An entertaining Vegas-set action remake. I can forgive convenience, minor plot holes, visible twists, and cringe-worthy lady cop bravado because the film offers riveting action, a respectable cast, and great, two-dimensional characters just like every action film should have. Foxx is Vincent, the secret good cop. David Harbour is Dennison, the secret bad cop. Michelle Monaghan is Bryant, the whiter-than-white good cop. Dermot Mulroney is the casino owner that dabbles in drugs as a backup plan. Scoot McNairy is Novak, the ruthless gangster son of a drug kingpin. And Gabrielle Union is the kept-in-the-dark wife that saves the day. Pretty decent cast.

It could have been more fleshed out in terms of Vincent's Internal Affairs investigation, and I'd have loved to have seen Novak's father. It is also shame that all of Vincent's undercover work will be seemingly wasted because all of his targets died in one night, besides the father that we unfortunately will not be treated to a sequel on.

B

Pretty awfully written is what hurts this the most, poorly acted too, but I guess that's a byproduct of the script and dialogue. Only Scoot McNairy raises above it and gives a good turn to his role, Dermot Mulroney was fun too. The film ultimately serves as passable because of the fast paced storytelling with dashes of action. While not boring it does fall completely short of pretty much every other cop or action thriller of the last few years.

Yeah, that was on my mind too, was hoping for a nice cameo of someone here.

Scoot McNairy is one of those actors that I find hard to place (which is a good thing). He's good at his craft and not in the Hollywood circle. Much like Barry Pepper and Sam Rockwell. I like all three, especially Rockwell.

Yeah, Barry Pepper is an actor I've always liked as well. Rockwell has had a few good roles, but not particularly a fan of him though.

Rockwell is too cool for you.
