Assassin's Creed
This wasn't bad. I've never played any of the games nor know the story of the games, so I was lost during the final quarter. But everything up until then was passable. The Andalucian scenes were well done. Acrobatics. Gorgeous architecture. Riveting score. But they were also annoying; hard to see through the sandy/smokey visual choice, and the Spanish was not subtitled (which didn't cause any confusion but did put up a barrier to fully invest). Fassbender acted well. And it's always a treat to see Brendan Gleeson. It is a shame that the historical scenes were not given their place to shine. It was almost as if the film attempted to imitate a gaming style (which probably originally tried to copy a film style). Photographically, the location and time period could have provided more than we got in the film. So, overall, not bad, but certainly not as good as people claim the games are.

The ending of the movie pretty much confirmed that noone involved here knew what they were during. Marion Cotillard's character goes from a bad guy to a good guy to a bad guy in matter of minutes for no apparent reason after she sees herself as one of the Assassin's then basically OK's Fassbender to kill her father then she gets mad at him for doing it? Also what the hell was that Apple supposed to do? Do some green smoke effects? It would be better if they left it as a McGuffin. This way they went into a terrible explanation of what the Apple was over and over again then it actually wasn't about free will and control but about killing people?
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is a masterpiece compared to this.
