Re: The Great Wall
But since the rest of KJ is not on there, I thought it made sense to fire up a possible conversation on here. Is anyone else reading this thread actually...lol

They are.
They (Chippy, _axiom, tree and a half) will only chime in when they spot a mistake or notice an opportunity to cause an argument, and others have no interest in the film or have already shared as much as they feel necessary.

Re: The Great Wall
Chinese Avengers killing giant lizards, with a white destined man helping them out, it wasn't bad Tbh and it might actually get a nomination for "Best Costume design" next year :3 B.

Re: The Great Wall
With that last review, the film definitely tends to more well liked than not on this forum.
The DVD/ Blu-Ray will be out in 2 weeks I think, wonder if some more people will see it then (may I be just from an online-rip).

Re: The Great Wall
People mostly seem to see it for what it is...fun with monsters in China.

Re: The Great Wall
Zhang Yimou claiming that the story could have been a bit weak as a reason for its soft US performance. I'd say that's not a reason at all when you have Fast movies making over $200m. The Great Wall was just never going to make hundreds of millions in the US. It's a very Chinese-looking project, and it's a period actioner, besides Troy and Gladiator (which are from two much more accessible periods) do these ever do gangbusters? Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was a one-off perfect storm that is not to be used as a bar for all proceeding Chinese period pieces. It will never be replicated. http://www.sfgate.com/news/article/Zhan ... 134566.php

Re: The Great Wall
Eh, pretty lame for the most part. Lame characters aside from Oberyn Martell. The visual effects and production and costume design were impeccable, but the story is generic and I found it difficult to care about what was going on.

Re: The Great Wall
Story is generic? In what sense? What did you expect out of the movie? The creatures will take over the humanity. Also how many movies have creatures this smart?

Re: The Great Wall
The story is generic in the sense that it is just humans versus monsters. But I see no problem with that. But Moana is hardly The Matrix and he loved that. From this and his other reviews, it seems that zwackerm just lacks the critical talent to come up with real reasons why he dislikes things.

Re: The Great Wall
It's not a great movie by any means, but it did enough to make me care during the battle scenes. And they are glorious because of it. I even felt a little bit of Chinese patriotism. So for me, The Great Wall was a success.
