I'm not going to analyze the lyrics of "Shiny" :P I don't care what it was written with in mind, I know what it reminded me personally of.

That's not a good thing considering Frozen is overrated as hell to begin with.

Wasn't a fan of Shiny at all. The other songs were good though.

The film is gorgeous, really made me think of 90's Disney. The story isn't that great but The Rock is awesome and the young girl as Moana is great as well. I really enjoyed it.

Post Re: Moana
There are two good songs. Johnson's singing was surprisingly good, but that song was completely forgettable. As for the story, Frozen is a masterpiece compared to this. This is fluff. Moana is cute and I'm sure she'll inspire some girls, but this just seemed from the same cloth as Pocahontas. Granted, I haven't seen that movie in years, but I remember being very bored by it. Moana isn't quite as boring, but it comes close. And I needed Dwayne Johnson being more Dwayne Johnson-y. This movie is incredibly light on humor. And whoever decided the pig should be left on the island and substitute it with the chicken (or why not have both?) is an idiot.

C+

I assume you liked How Far I'll Go and which other song?

I really thought You're Welcome and Where You Are were toe tappers. To each his own.

Also, this is now twice this year where I thought a movie was HILARIOUS, and Dullmart found no humor in it.

You must be having a pretty fucking depressing year, bro.

It's really only like Pocahontas in that she has a father who is chief of a tribe and there is a scene of Pocahontas in a canoe but that's not what defines her.

Re-read that chunk. I meant in terms of being boring. They're the same journey/girl must find herself, while having an animal friend tag along, bland movie. It's at least not dull like Pocahontas was.

Pocahontas does not have any sort of journey.

I still wonder which songs you liked.

Notice how I put a dash between journey/girl must find herself? Pocahontas might not actually travel, but it's the same fucking thing. Disney (and everyone really) basically tells a handful of stories. Look at Frozen. Girl travels with human companion, and instead of a furry animal, it's a snowman. Same plot mechanics. It's how you dress it up. The more you notice the more boring the story usually is.

As for the songs...

The Rock's, which I liked in the moment, but don't remember it now.
The main Lin Manuel Miranda one - We Know the Way
And How Far I'll Go - which is trying desperately to be Let it Go and fails, but is still good.

The ones you remember were sung multiple times. How Far I'll Go 3X and We Know the Way 2X (plus it was in all the trailers). Have you listened to the other songs more than once? Very rarely do I love a song after one listen.

I don't remember saying I didn't remember the last two. Just The Rock's song, which I believe is only played again as an instrumental over the credits.

And?

By the way, thank you for taking the time to find that thread, read my review, and try to use it against me (I think?).

I forgot to mention it, but this is 100% correct. It is an absolute pleasure to look at.

So if Frozens story is so much better, what makes you give this the same grade?

I could have sworn you said you liked a Frozen in another thread.
