They should have left 90% of it.
Could have done without the close ups of burning bodies and prison shanks, though.

Finally watched it. I think I should've went with the shorter cut. Damn, this movie is so naive and infantile. Both Superman and Batman act like kids in a kindergarten. I really didn't expect much but it came really under even the lowest of my expectations. The whole thing feels randomly patched from time to time. For instance the music during the Superman "death" scene is completely wrong - it actually made me laugh. Oh well...

You liked the theatrical cut so I am sure you will love the extended cut.

to each his own but i thought the music in the sequence is spot on, particulary the use of the MoS theme with Clarks "this is my world" moment. The music after Doomsday dies is basically a ripoff of Gladiator but it works.
In fact, I think the end to the climatic battle is one of the best ends to a climatic battle in any comic-book film (though a lot of that is cause most of them arent that good). The acting Amy Adams in particular is strong and the shots of WW and Batman standing while Lois holds Clarks body is stunning.
though this impact is lost a lot because much of the 2.5 hours before this moment is dull. The 35-second sequence from 0:17-0:52 in the video above though is so perfect that I almost wanna forgive everything else. He is Superman, Kal-El, and Clark Kent all in one.
Ugh that moment should have meant so much more though.
Nolan would have won BP w/ the same concept.

Yes because directing few seconds in a big blockbuster apparently wins you BP.

I think he means if Nolan directed the entire film.

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
This film is not horrible, but it's not very good either. The main issue is that the plot is incoherent and makes no sense. None of the character's motivations make sense. Lex Luthor's plan makes no sense. The audience is not given a believable reason why Batman would fight Superman beyond this idiotic quote "if we believe there's even a one percent chance that he is our enemy we have to take it as an absolute certainty." What? Just what? And the Martha thing is stupid too. The film is involving until they blow up the senate building at the very least.
The film is so jam packed with incomprehensible plotting that there is little time for anything to breathe or for characters to be developed. Superman's death rings especially hollow in this respect. And while Wonder Woman kicks ass, the end fight against Doomsday is every bit as generic as it looked from the trailer.

I cannot even remember much of this film. It is all just a mash-up of dark images. I'll need to watch the 3hr director's cut. But I'm not getting my hopes up.

How fast is Superman supposed to be exactly? We see him save the cockpit of an exploding rocket in a very strong visual, but how exactly does he know to be there? Does he chill out around every rocket launch on the very off chance of a catastrophic failure?
He's not called Superman for nothing.
(except when the plot demands it, of course)

This movie is really quite strange. I remember the individual scenes, but not what the actual plot holding them together was
And I cannot decide whether Granny's peach tea or Martha is more cringe worthy.
It's almost amusing to watch this film because it is so obviously striving for greatness and depth, and it fails at nearly every aspect. It has good bits, but overall it's ridiculous and overblown.
Finally saw the extended cut. Man did that flesh out the Lois storyline. Still probably a bit unneeded, but it gave a LOT more Superman story and fleshed out his reasoning for being down on the human race.
A!

Definitely the "FIND ... HIM ... SAVE ... MARTHA" scene. Such terrible acting by Cavill. But the Granny's Peach Tea scene isn't great either. Holly Hunter's pausing is just plain bad. However, it doesn't get funnier than this:
Batman: "WHY DID YOU SAY THAT NAME?!" Batman: "WHY DID YOU SAY THAT NAME?!" Batman: "WHY DID YOU SAY THAT NAME?!" Lois: "Stop. Please. It's his mother's name" Batman: "Oh, right, cool. Cheers for that. See ya' then!"

Nor does it destroy a brand or lead to 70% drops. So your point is what? MY point is the WOM will not be even close to the level of the RT score. I have no idea what point you are trying to make.

I didn't just bump the thread to laugh at old Excel posts, although that was a nice trip down memory lane. How could someone be that wrong? Anyways, no, I bumped it back up because I finally saw the Ultimate Edition.
It's 30 minutes longer. It's slightly more coherent. It's R-rated.
Someone at Warner Brothers read the script for an 180 minute R-rated Superman/Batman film, following the divisiveness of Man of Steel (which I also watched again tonight right before this and still very much enjoyed (A-)), read what would become of their two biggest superheroes and said, "Yeah, that sounds like a good idea! Go Zack go!". No, it's clear as day that all they saw was the title and dollar signs. And as we now know a year and a half later, that plan has backfired. Probably not enough to destroy the DCEU, but there is a lot of rebuilding to do.
The only hero in this movie is Wonder Woman. She's great. But Snyder and company dug themselves too big a hole to care about either Batman or Superman by the end of the film. And to try and save it with "MARTHA!"...I didn't hate it as much this time, but that's still shit writing. Then again, this a film that pretty much has to do cartwheels to set up the big fight. At any point, Superman could've just taken a knee in front of Batman and explained what just happened with Lex. But then you don't have the "v" from you're title. Or, maybe a Batman v Superman movie was just never a good idea.
New, small problem this time around: Why the hell doesn't Lois ever tell Clark that the wheelchair was made out of lead and he never could've seen the bomb coming? You'd think once he came back that'd be the first thing she'd tell him.
So yeah, the Ultimate Edition is more coherent, but that's the cinematic equivalent of putting a band aid on a bullet wound to the head. And, IT'S 30 MINUTES LONGER! The movie just should've never been made, or at least not made this early. This movie tells me that Batman has been at it for 20 years, but I don't care. We haven't seen it. But it's clear that after Man of Steel, Warner Brothers was only in this to get a quick buck instead of putting in the footwork like Marvel.
I just watched the Ultimate Edition and it is better. I'd raise my grade from a C- to a B just because of that cut. It's long but doesn't feel it. It feels around two hours. The final fight with Doomsday is much better this time around. Everything was better. Or maybe I just expected less so liked it more. That old annoying mind trick!
I do have some questions though:
1. When Bruce is running towards Wayne Enterprises at the beginning when Superman and Zod are destroying Metropolis, he is shouting "Dad!". I thought his dad died when he was a young boy. Does anybody have more info on that? Any cast interview or something explaining that that man is his foster dad?
2. One odd thing is that Bruce says he was Batman for 20 years. BvS takes place two years after Man of Steel, meaning he was Batman 18 years prior to Superman's arrival. That makes sense with the look of his bat cave setup (looks like he's been around for a while), but I was under the impression that he became Batman to avenge the destruction of Metropolis. Also, why does he only recently get press about fighting justice and going too far (branding them) if he's been Batman for 18 years?
Now a B?, didn't expect that. BvS UE is one of the most watchable films of the century, I must say. It is an undeniable and extremely underrated movie.

I also just started watching the Ultimate Edition, I got about 20min left, which I'll finish tomorrow. About this part, I didn't check it back yet, but I recall him actually saying "Jack!".
