My mindset 8 years ago was so unbelievably different than it is now.

Yes. I believe most people have changed substantially in the last 8 years.

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
Yeah. Batman didn't get raped after all. So that's a sign of progress. I'd like to think most people would change over an eight year period, but when you're getting paid millions of dollars to do pretty much the same thing over and over again, where's the reason to change. You'd think his films would've become more substantive than less/the same. Instead, he's changed Batman and Superman into Watchmen-esque characters.

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
Now, I'm dumb, and I've only liked two of Snyder's movies (it helps that one is in this universe), but even at a bloated, absurd, and dumbfounding (did Snyder really think the WB was going to release a movie this big, at that length?...he's not James "Print Money" Cameron) 182 minutes, I'll give it another shot and try to be as fair as possible.
That's a 31 minute difference between the theatrical and director's cuts (seriously, what the hell was Snyder and the WB thinking?). That has to clear up at least some of the editing problems. Maybe we'll even have more than lip service as to why Clark hates Batman so much (which is weird because they're not that far off from one another).
Or maybe it'll be an even bigger clusterfuck! Should be fun.

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
A lot of eerie similarities between this and Civil War. I thought Civil War captured the emotion of the fight better, but I think the actual fight was better in this. Each fight ended in a different way, this with a "controversial" resolution, Civil War with a "defeat" and a to be continued. Both had a similar moment, with Crossbones saying Bucky's name and Captain America freezing, and this with the Martha moment. Both worked. Both had "court" explosions, of which I though BvS was slightly better. Civil War focused on 1-2 stories, while BvS tried 3-4, which allowed Civil War to hit a lot of beats harder and with better aim. Both struggled in the first half. Zemo had a more fleshed out motivation, but Lex was far more menacing.

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
The fight in BvS was pretty crap all things considered, it only lived on one thing, see them fight. They seemed to have cared so much about putting it together, effort was spared on how it was put together. It wasn't well executed, well filmed or tense. Civil War's outdid it in each of those aspects.

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
Agreed. BvS's fight was shit in comparison to Civil War.
Civil War: B/B+ BvS: C/C+
Cannot believe I have that opinion, but yeah, that's how it is. I am liking Civil War the more I think about it, and forgetting BvS existed the more I think about it (lucky me!).

A streaming service released the Ultimate Cut early. Haven't read anything about how it affects it as a whole but I did read scenes are rearranged, interesting.

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
I did manage to catch a copy for Ultimate Cut and I'll say that nothing has really changed. Its still the same flaws the only thing that you see here more is the one thing most complaint and that's Luthor's setup of Superman which is given more screen time and helps a little bit in getting that angle more closure. Its rated R for no apparent reason, we see a bathing butt shot of Bruce before the first party scene at Luthor's and there is a "fuck you" from Wallace, oh and Amy Adams bathing scene is extended for a few seconds where Cavill goes shirtless (don't know if that qualifies for R rating anyways). The much discussed Jenna Malone character has 2 or maybe 3 small scenes to help Lois with her investigation and it doesn't do anything with the character here. The ending has really no extension other than the one we saw in a teaser called "Communion" and an additional kick at the ground level from Supes. Jimmy Olsen is much more clearly identified and killed here, the desert scene is the most extended/modified here.
Its overlong with no change to the flaws of the film but can be watched once if you didn't understand how Luthor wrongly blamed Superman for the desert incident.

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
I'm about an hour into the new cut and I'm really liking the additions, there are some transitions that make the film flow smoother than the theatrical and some scenes are rearranged I believe. Also the added scenes with Clark definitely help, they should've left at least one of them in the theatrical.

I think the ultimate cut helps the film, especially Clark and Lois, also, the set up is so much better now.

Nor does it destroy a brand or lead to 70% drops. So your point is what? MY point is the WOM will not be even close to the level of the RT score. I have no idea what point you are trying to make. Less than a 2 multiplier...70% drops...

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
Finished the extended edition this morning and I feel it enhances the film but those who hate the story and what not won't really find themselves doing a 180 with this. I'd say check it out if you're really, really curious or editing and not story was your biggest gripe.
Best additions are Clark going to Gotham and the expanded subplot with the woman in the beginning court scene. lol at Jena Malone getting all this attention and being in the movie for less than a minute. Worst addition is the 20 seconds or so of showing the inside of a sandwich shop (what) and close up of the food at Clark's funeral (what).

The scene where Lois figures out Lex is behind everything was good and a puzzling cut.

The extended edition doesn't do anything to hide any of the flaws it actually adds more to the arguments of "Worst Detective Work from both Batman and Superman".

If they had material to hide flaws they would use it in the theatrical cut. The problem is very rarely in the cut itself. Don't know what people expected.

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
I expected that the theatrical cut was a rushed mess and had some other major scenes cut out because they wanted to deliver a certain product, while I won't say that this is an equally bigger mess but as I mentioned it concentrates on the not-required-cleaning parts.

I'm only about halfway through the Ultimate Cut, but this version of the movie helps Clark considerably, and the editing no longer feels like a Warner Bros hatchet job.
