Re: Trainwreck
This was really wonderful. It suffers from the usual Apatow faults of being overlong (seriously, does he feel an obligation to deliver a 2+ hour movie each time?!) and Brie Larson's character had more potential that was not fleshed out, but other than that, damn...it was the best romcom in years. The final scene had me grinning from ear to ear.
And special props to John Cena, he was hysterical and way better than LeBron.
Also, I didn't recognize Tilda Swinton...

Amy Schumer deserves an Oscar nom for her performance.

Re: Trainwreck
She does. This is easily the summer's best comedy, and Schumer is a huge part of the reason why.

Re: Trainwreck
It is interesting how she wrote it, yet it strongly resembles Apatow's self-penned films so much, in ways both positive and negative.

He gave her his scripts, she followed the formula, and a few copy and paste's later = Trainwreck I don't blame her though. It's a winning formula and it worked again.

Re: Trainwreck
Really enjoyable romcom. Amy Schumer is all around fantastic showing real dramatic depth in addition to her comedy. She felt natural. Bill Hader is as good. He felt like *that guy* so much to me that it’s hard to imagine what his old Hader performances were like. He had some great moments playing off Schumer like his expression in the taxi when she says one stop or when he’s trying to stay awake during their argument.
The supporting characters are a riot, especially Tilda Swinton and John Cena and the homeless guy. Lebron is fine but his and Miller’s characters (and Radcliffe/Tomei) feel like extended skits specifically for the joke rather than adding to Amy and Aaron’s story and her growth. Cena’s role makes more organic sense as its shows Amy’s previous relationship skills. It’s fine because Lebron and Miller both funny, but I feel the movie flows together more naturally if for example if Amare was the one giving him the advice. Brie Larson’s character isn’t that great. The tension between her and Amy never felt like it ould last considering their warm relationship. The husband and Alistair were funny though.
The ending is a little cutesy and easy but it doesn’t mean they’ll have a happy ending. I can’t find it anywhere now, but I though Judd Apatow said about Knocked Up that Ben and Alison wouldn’t last more than a few months after the film ends. Amy and Aaron having the happy moment at the basketball game doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll make it, just that they want to try.
Probably my least favorite Apatow directed but I still really like it, it’s just the other 4 are in my top 100

Re: Trainwreck
Pretty good film. Trainwreck is great at times, John Cena plays a great part, and Brie Larsen is great to watch as well. The first hour is pretty much really good, after that it becomes a bit dull, and predictable. It then picks it up again near the end, I loved the intervention scene, and the reconciliation part is also good. I wasn't familiar with Schumer until a few weeks I checked out some of her bits on youtube, which are pretty funny, and this film is a stretched out, deeper continuation of that. The film is more difficult to digest because it just feels overlong, something all of Apatow's films have actually. It feels unnecessary, as I think his films can be a better product by toning down the dramedy aspect. His style is not bad either though, mostly funny, nice music, and always a pleasing cast. Was fun to see several athletes star in this as well, enjoyed seeing LeBron getting some acting in as well. The dad and Swinton (unrecognizable) were both highlights, and the opening scene was great, setting a very nice tone for the film.
Trainwreck ultimately is successful in getting its laugh on, with good scenes and a likable cast, where its only downfalls are the run time, and the cliched development of the story line.

bought the blu-ray for this a few days ago and I'm watching the deleted scenes (45 minutes!), some funny stuff. I've really come to love this movie.

Re: Trainwreck
The only thing wrong with this film is it is a tad long if you're tired like I was when watching it. Had I been alert, I would not have wanted it to end. Its such a fresh and funny movie, despite it's familiar Rom com trappings. This is a movie that never would have been made in the 90's or even the early 2000's. Despite Amy's character's controversial lifestyle and personality, you sympathize with her anyway. Some scenes are so funny, like the movie theater date with John Cena. This is the best comedy since Bridesmaids, hands down.

I find it hard to believe Schumer wrote this considering how dire The a Leather Special is.
