Re: Jurassic World
Really?????? Gasoline? The I-Rex hunted on heat, like a snake. They go out of their way to say that. I'm pretty sure cutting a hot gas tank open on you would looking very appetizing especially as it flows out under the truck. It's not like he was under a magical truck that you couldn't see his entire body. As said, one scene it has only T-Rex abilities, the next it has everything a 1960s Batman would have up it's sleeve. There is no consistency at all.

Re: Jurassic World
Gas gets hot when it's in a car, even when not in use. Depends entirely on the environment. An Island off the coast of Costa Rica, gas could have been crazy hot. I think the record is like 50 degrees celsius or 122 Fahrenheit. Hell the I-Rex should have attacked the truck itself for being a big hot piece of metal. Actually it's a almost a major plot hole as they're are many theories that Dinosaurs were cold blooded. You can get away with that by saying they are genetically altered to be warm blooded, but many frogs are cold blooded. That's giving this film way too much thought. I need a sit

Re: Jurassic World
Thegun, IDK what you're even trying to prove. I don't think anybody is disputing the movie had holes.
We're calling the people who overlook them for JP but now JW hypocrites.

Re: Jurassic World
And I'm in disagreement because while park has it's flaws, JW is ridiculously crazy. And makes no sense.
You're right that it's silly to compare one film about genetically altered dinosaurs to another as making more sense. JP as a whole is better told, exciting film, with holes/ plot devices that are sometimes hindered by movie generics. JW has that, and is contradicting itself left and right, and takes huge leaps to get there.

Yeah, i think that one has run it's course.
Margarita guy is hands down my favorite part of the film. I'd totally be that guy as I'm sure probably just spent $25 a piece on them.

Re: Jurassic World
Ratings are arbitrary and irrelevant anyway. I give them out because readers want them and because it simplifies comparisons, but in fact there is no way to measure a film's quality in some sort of way. Just like when someone does his/her all-time Top 200 and I wonder what the film at the 152nd place has that the film at the 153rd place hasn't... Arbitrary.

Re: Jurassic World
I would choose to watch this again over seeing Fury Road again. Fury Road may be a better film but the rewatchability of this is so much higher for me. It's so much fun.

Re: Jurassic World
The longer this movie gestates, the more I dislike it. I did have some fun watching it in the theater, however seeing a highly anticipated, record breaking movie opening weekend has been known to add a bit of extra glow to a film. At the time I was thinking B but now I'm feeling B-, and it actually might be a C.
Jurassic World. Had a lot of the modernist blockbuster tropes that feel very disingenuous to me, very outdated and manufactured. The movie tries to be something else (the original Jurassic Park) while being just enough removed, "hip" enough, to be its own self-aware entitiy, with post-millennial irony that doesn't actually say anything. The whole movie feels like a corporate calculation to entertain me, and it only works on a very superficial level.
And the whole thing with the women in this picture..... Icy bitch doesn't know her nephews ages. Wtf? Who cares? Claire with her high heels and the ridiculous "Haha!" moment where she rolls up her sleeves like a tooty puss..... What the fuck? And the extended, brutal, clearly visible death of the babysitter/assistant. The guys too, every single person is a tried-and-true stereotype. Even Chris Pratt was kind of.... meh.... yay, another traditionally-masculine leading man. No sparkle. Perhaps surprisingly, the kids annoyed me the least in this picture.
Yeah this movie blows.
A+ (not as good as A+'s that were fantastic, more like a C level A+)

Re: Jurassic World
Audiences do want stereotypes, though. Every film these days seems to have three-dimensional, dark, mysterious, anti-heroes that have weird desires and fetishes. This gets boring. And the stereotypes play well with the 90s nostalgia.
1. Jurassic Park: The Lost World A 2. Jurassic Park A 3. Jurassic World B+ 4. Jurassic Park III B-
All in all, a very enjoyable franchise.

I am not sure why some are raving about BDH, who basically only had a couple of good lines, and was mostly filler in the movie. She is no Rachel Weitz, for example, in her prime.

I don't think petrol goes through transparent pipes that drag under the truck and can be easily pierced. Either way, as Excel said too, the film has holes. But nobody gives a shit.

Excel wrote: The only REAL, TRUE legit gripe is WHY THE FUCK would Pratt and co. go into the fucking Cage? Claire calls control once she is driving away - why wouldn't she just call them from the viewing room before they went into the cage to make sure the obvious claw marks were, in fact, claw marks...? Her leaving while they enter the cage makes no sense. Surely they could have thought of a better way to make the thing escape.
But, that is like asking why Nedry waits until Hammond and all his pals are on the island & there's a hurricane going on to steal the embryos - wouldn't it have been much easier to do it under normal weather on one of the many days Hammond and co. likely aren't around? Nedry designed the fucking system - how fucking difficult can it be to circumvent for 20 minutes?!
Seriously Jurassic Park's disaster relies on such a string of absurd, out of character decisions and coincidences yet nobody cares. The movie rocks and is perfect in most regards, but the point still true. Easy and Understandable. Not a big deal at all. The group were investigating and looking for the way they thought the monster escaped, since they didn't see him on the heat sensors or know the monster could hide by changing colors, etc and was still in the arena. Which totally took them by surprise. Claire is a take charge kind of girl, and she wanted to be at the control room, to control the situation. Also, I don't think she had complete faith in the workers.

Re: Jurassic World
The problem with the "escape" is not the way it may or may not strain credulity. It is the total absence of foreboding. No sense of danger on the horizon. The dinosaur just...escapes. Oh, no, run, yawn. In the original, Spielberg does a fantastic, fantastic job winding the audience up, teasing the impending disaster move by move.

The point was the Dino was out and missing, and there were 22,000 tasty human on the island. Also, the size of the claw marks on the wall showed how big and imposing the Dino was.

Re: Jurassic World
That's not what he's talking about. And welcome to the boards.
All you have to do is watch the build up of the electrical fence being turned back on in the first. That has no dinosaurs in it, and is still more exciting and full of tension than anything in JW.
And the raptors opening the door and kids hiding from them in the kitchen.
On the other hand there are so many people to eat there is no chance of harm to anyone in the cast in JW except evil D'onofrio.
Finally the hunter about to kill the raptor in the first and "clever girl" is better then the security team being killed. Pretty much every action scene in the first builds, lingers. The difference is suspense and tension.
JW does have one great oh shit moment though, when you find out the big boy is part raptor. But the payoff is weak with its Aliens/ The rock ripoff of action through camera monitors scene.
