Prince Avalanche is a 2013 American film, loosely-based on the 2011 Icelandic film Either Way (Á annan veg). It was shot in Bastrop, Texas, after the Bastrop County Complex fire.

Pretty good. Loved the scene in which Rudd first meets the old woman at her burned down house.

Post Re: Prince Avalanche
A small film, beautiful and charming and slow and unusual, which represents a return to a more idiosyncratic, art-house ready style for writer/director David Gordon Green after a string of comedies for general audiences, including Pineapple Express and The Sitter. A low-key Paul Rudd plays Alvin, pretentious and stern, and Emile Hirsch is Lance, horny and impulsive and nowhere near as intrigued by nature as the character the actor played in Sean Penn's masterful Into the Wild. They are a mismatched duo sent to an isolated part of Texas to paint new lines on a long and winding forest road after a large, lethal wildfire in the late 1980s. The aftermath of the fire casts a melancholy shadow over the film, which focuses on the hesitant development of Alvin and Lance's friendship and the Thoreau style solitude of their labor. The cumulative impact of the film is hard to quantify--many will be unmoved entirely (if not asleep), a few will be blown away beyond description, and others, myself included, will be amused and a bit mystified and a bit touched--but the interaction of the stars generates an undeniable energy, the locations are often awe-inspiring, and the journey is an interesting one.

This sums it up pretty well. A great blend of comedy and drama. The scene with the old woman Lecter mentioned, was my favorite of the movie. Rudd was excellent.

Yeah a very good, light film. Rudd is great and it's great seeing Hirsch again in a film.

Prince Avalanche

I love films like this. It is not particularly moving, but David Gordon Green has crafted a beautifully shot, hilariously written, indie buddy comedy. The dialogue is so well written, and the performances by Emile Hirsch and Paul Rudd are so honest and likable, especially and surprisingly Hirsch. I really enjoyed listening to the duo chat from their respective extreme positions; one being a horny twentysomething and the other being a boring, settled-in-his-ways daily grinder. Great film, with an awesome score and pleasant-on-the-eye cinematography.
