Yes, it is more of a racial term.
I just used it to use it. I cannot get it out of mind after hearing James Gandolfini awesomely wheel it out multiple times in Not Fade Away.

It is a great term. I love it when the older generation use it in annoyance.

Re: Bullet to the Head
I like the finale in Expendables 2, even if it is poorly lit, and statham's final fight was cooler. It wasn't as "ok" finale Eric Roberts got.
This one was a little heavily edited for my taste, could have used some far sweeping shots, I thought the rest of the action was great up until that, this was just ok.
I'd totally see Another Another 48 hours if I wasn't for Nick Nolte, the man needs 4 cups of coffee, a couple jacks and a car battery to nuts to just walk around and almost be understandable. That's per take

Every action scene here is helped by the sound design. The punches are thunderous.

Re: Bullet to the Head
I love how simple this film is. Just straightforward, right for the jugular. There is such a genuine pleasure in observing an old-fashioned revenge story play out to its natural conclusion. Walter Hill creates zest via the atmosphere, the attitude, the humor, and the pace, but knows not to complicate the beautiful simplicity of the film's core arc.

Re: Bullet to the Head
Another great stylistic detail in this movie: after the obligatory no-cell-phones/go-purchase-popcorn/enjoy-the-show advertisement, one expects two or three full studio logos and then the actual film. I love how this movie jolts you with a bullet flying directly through the three logos, shattering them into small pieces, and then into the camera. Fantastic touch. Sets the tone.

This movie has moments of glory and was saved by an outstanding ending but overall I didn't like what I was seeing.

Re: Bullet to the Head
This was such a lazy movie. I wasn't excited for a second for anything that happened on screen, but I wasn't bored either. Stallone was fun and I liked Momoa as villain, that guy is a beast. The end fight was indeed pretty cool and the best thing about this movie. Other than that, there just wasn't anything worth talking about.

Re: Bullet to the Head
"Lazy" is the wrong word. It is conservative, favoring maximum dominance of its own domain to any bid for ingenuity. Walter Hill knows this is not the project with which to revise the rules of the action genre, and he knows his craft and his worldview are relics in the computer generated superhero age. His response is perfect, though: he pretends it is 1985 and creates an earnest ode to the masculine B style he helped pioneer. Anyone seeing this in search of new ground is misguided. It is great because it returns to familiar territory not as ironic camp, but with absolute authenticity. This film this way, pure and straight, is not conceivable in 20 years. The talent will be dead. This will stand as one of the final dispatches of a glorious, decadent era.

Re: Bullet to the Head
I love those 80's macho-action movies you're talking about, and it was obvious Bullet tried to be one of those, but other than some nice Stallone one-liners and the last fight, the movie just had absolutely nothing exciting to offer. And I think lazy is the perfect word to describe this film. At least it's the first one that comes to my mind when I think about Bullet.

Re: Bullet to the Head
I don't think it's lazy, it's more refreshingly straightforward. Take out the stronger one liners, and overall good performances and editing, it's really not more than a DTV Seagal Movie. The thing that this film works the most is Stallone shows he's always been an A list talent, and everything is elevated because of it.
Again going back to why it flopped, this kind of low concept doesn't really sell anymore.

It's coming out in Hong Kong on April 4th. YES, YES, YES, YES! I was worried I wouldn't get to see it on the big screen. Kudos to the Hong Kongenese, and a big middle finger to the Chinese!

Re: Bullet to the Head
So I'm seeing this on Thursday or Friday in HK. It's a holiday over here so we're going for the weekend and making a romantic break of it, we're going to do a few nice restaurants, go to this lovely scenic water park and just enjoy ourselves, but all I can think about is seeing Bullet to the Head.
