Not really. She thinks he's cool, but doesn't have a desire to watch his movies.

I love her. I'm not going to force her to watch something she has no interest in watching. She wanted to watch the Die Hard's the other say, so we watched them all. I'm hoping that enthusiasm continues after we see Bullet to the Head.

One of the few good things I can say about Bullet is that it is better than Die Hard 5....

I was the only critic that came to the press screening of this.

Bullet to the Head
It's the most individualistic buddy-cop movie I've ever seen. This is a Stallone feature, let's get that clear. It's basically Cobra 2. Sly was pretty awesome in it playing the hard-as-nails, takes-no-shit hitman with a past of crime. He's so hard, I swear I could hear a thud everytime he took a footstep (even on the street). The action was great, the storyline wasn't, but Jason Momoa shines as a henchman to rival Stone Cold Steve Austin from The Expendables, he was pretty impressive even though he didn't say much. It's a low-key affair, it's gritty, looks as if it was made for DTV at times, but that doesn't detract from how much I loved it.
I felt that director Walter Hill is best left in retirement. His odd editing choices early on put me off for a while, but Stallone's charm and the violence steered me back in line. I loved it how every character died with a bullet to the head, and that Turkish spa fight was pretty great. I like the end axe fight, and even though I thought they zoomed in a lot to disguise the fact that they were probably not hurting each other as much as they'd like you to believe, I still enjoyed it a hell of a lot and the end to that fight was pretty cool. I think a few tweaks could have been made, like the music; for how awesome it was, it was repetitive, and I expected some tunes, but we just got fed the same title music over and over.
Sung Kang's character might as well have stayed at home for how useless he was. I loved how you get to see some tit throughout the movie, and I especially liked the homage to Eyes Wide Shut with masks and the ladies in their "birthday suits". Speaking of which, Christian Slater was pretty good, if underused. Scenes from the trailer that I didn't see were when Kang says "I'm from Florida" and "got any music from this century". I thought those lines were pretty cool and funny, but they were left out. The movie has a great atmosphere to it, though, and that is probably where Hill shines..he really creates a seedy, crime-infested New Orleans ambience, so he wasn't completely useless - I mean, the man's apparently a legend so he must have some skills.
I loved the mix of the Turkish bath house, the escape from Bobo's safe house by swimming underwater (reminded me of True Lies), the axe fight, the nudity, Sly getting pissed off at the right time, and the gags, they totally worked. The humour was great. I laughed out loud when he said "fucking read it in your tea leaves" or something, then the nods to Kato and Confucius were also funny. The comedy worked here more than in The Expendables 2, where it just fell flat or was too silly. This is certainly not an homage to 80s movies, it is an 80s movie - it's totally badass, and I want to watch it again now.
B+

Re: Bullet to the Head
Not really. I thought it would be the best movie of 2013 (it was great, just not greeeeeeat!), and with a "B+", it's probably not going to finish 2013 in the Top 3. But if the first three months of 2013 are anything to play by, it may still top the year!

Re: Bullet to the Head
Great question!
Ummm, that'd be 2010 I believe, with The Expendables. Before that it would be 2006 with Rocky Balboa. 2008 is a maybe too with Rambo, but I had a few problems with that movie, although 2008 was pretty shit for movies so it probably tops the year anyway, or tied with Lakeview Terrace and Burn After Reading at least.

My mind is blown, David liked a Stallone-film more than Algren...

It's about on-par with The Last Stand, not better, not worse, and that received a "B+". 2. I usually downgrade movies over time anyway, when I'm over the initial excitement, so I thought I would just grade it a "B+" right now and then never have to change it in the future. I think the editing choices throughout and Sung Kang were reasons that it couldn't be "A" material for me.

Walter Hill still thinks he's in the 1980s and I don't mean it in a good way.
