I really liked this. Langella is terrific.

Re: Robot & Frank
A light and charming blend of drama, humor, and near-future science fiction. Frank Langella is magisterial and moving as the title character, an elderly former burglar who lives alone and is given a robot (the deadpan voice of Peter Sarsgaard) by his concerned son (James Marsden). The robot is a chef, dietitian, and manservant and soon becomes a friend and partner-in-crime. The actual plot can feel a tad labored, but the performers, also including Susan Sarandon, breathe life into the material, and the relationship between man and robot--one desperate to hold on to his memories and vitality, the other aware of and "at peace" with his own artificiality and use--is as compelling as it is bittersweet.

A startling true tale of the "near future" (as it's referred to in Robot and Frank).
Funny and smart.
Great cast.
This is a tremendous sci-fi film deserved of being seen by all.
2038 out of 5.

If you haven't seen Robot & Frank yet, you're missing out on a sci-fi treat, but in the meantime, here's a progress report on the real world inspiration for this film's robot, Sony's ASIMO.

Re: Robot & Frank
I've had this for about 5 years. It's the perfect film to watch. It's short and easy to fit in just before bed or while my son is asleep, but for some reason I never got around to it until today. Well, it's a really good film. I loved it. Actually, I like this entire sub-sub-sub-genre: the old "retired" burglar still with one last job. It could have been longer with more of a punch in the Frank vs. Robot scenes and the Frank reunites with his wife scene. B+
