Quiz Show
Quiz ShowQuote: Quiz Show is a 1994 American historical drama film which tells the true story of the Twenty One quiz show scandal of the 1950s. It stars John Turturro, Rob Morrow, Ralph Fiennes, Paul Scofield, David Paymer, Hank Azaria, and Christopher McDonald.
The film chronicles the rise and fall of the popular contestant Charles Van Doren after the rigged loss of Herb Stempel and the Congressional investigator Richard N. (Dick) Goodwin's probe of Twenty One's game-fixing. Goodwin co-produced the film. Mira Sorvino appears as his wife, Sandra.
The movie was adapted by Paul Attanasio from Goodwin's book Remembering America. It was produced and directed by Robert Redford.

Re: Quiz Show
A bit too on-the-nose - especially the ending lines about the harmlessness of "show business" - but it's entertaining enough. Nearly every actor gives a standout performance, save for John Turturro, who turns his character into a laughable Jewish caricature. He's better than this.
It's too bad Rob Morrow wasn't able to parlay his impressive turn here into anything more than a starring role on Numb3rs, though.

Re: Quiz Show
Really enjoyed it, though I could only see Christopher McDonald as Shooter McGavin.

Re: Quiz Show
Just watched this. Good film. Nice to finally see it. Cool to see Martin Scorsese in front of the camera, and interesting to see an early part for Ethan Hawke - I had to rewind it to double-check! But yeah, it's a decent film. I actually thought David Paymer gave the best performance. He's very a underrated actor. B
