The Duellists is a 1977 film that was Ridley Scott's first feature film as a director. It won the Best Debut Film award at the 1977 Cannes Film Festival. The basis of the screenplay is the Joseph Conrad short story The Duel (U.S. title: Point of Honor) published in A Set of Six.

It looks pretty, but it's mostly silly and heavy-handed. Equivalent to something like Shane in its lumbering allegory. Is there a reason Harvey Keitel only showed up when there was a duel to be fought?
It's also, basically, a rip-off of Barry Lyndon, which begs the question: is Ridley Scott actively trying to copy Kubrick's film choices? Think about it.
