That is what I liked the least.

Exactly. If they don't know how to behave, and feel OK offending others, they get their ass kicked, so they'll think next time before opening their rotten mouths.

What he is grousing about is a lack of epilogue (that is the opposite of a prologue).

I do not like the prologue because it is an alien element, in story and style, to the main tale.

I resent the likeness you are trying to establish here, Monsieur Marin.

Indeed it is. But it's also better, both in story and style, than the main tale.

I disagree with the latter assertion.

That, I agree with.

I thought the prologue added very little to the rest of the film, which was brilliant.

Weird...looks like most either looved the prologue, but disliked the rest or thought it wa sno better than just ok. Or people loved the film, but disliked the prologue or were indifferent to it.

I loved both the prologue and the film... Much better than True Grit and its epilogue.

The prologue perfectly blends thematically with the Rasha quote that starts the film. Upon a 2nd watch I think this surpasses Fargo to become my 2nd favorite Coen's picture. I still have a bunch left to see but that will change this year.

A Serious Man

Really wanted to see this and really wanted to like it, but it's really boring. It's a typical Coens mistake, like O Brother, Where Art Thou?. I couldn't wait for it to end. Just nothing really happens, and the main character is a vacuous moron. The opening is pretty good, but the rest of the film doesn't live up to it. There are maybe two laughs, but not once did I become attached to this film, not even for a little bit. A huge disappointment after everyone said it's so great. And I am sure it only got nominated for Best Picture because Hollywood is so Jewish.

I'm not that knowledgeable on bible stuff, but this was an adaptation of the Book of Job right? As we go through it, I got bored a little often, I'll admit that, but the filmmaking itself was always top notch as you would expect from the Coens (who might be top 5 for me now, definitely top 8.) Thinking of the story as a whole makes it hilarious though. This poor guy goes through all this shit, constantly being asked to carry unreasonable burdens, and then, when at at the end of his rope, he finally does something dishonorable in his own self-interest, the check comes immediately in the form of cancer and a tornado. Interpreting God's Will is pointless since it never makes any sense. The exact sort of playfully dark shit I love to see in Coens' comedies.
