Quote:
Saw VI is a 2009 Canadian–American horror film directed by Kevin Greutert from a screenplay written by Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan. It is the sixth installment of the Saw film series and stars Tobin Bell, Costas Mandylor, Betsy Russell, Mark Rolston, Peter Outerbridge, and Shawnee Smith. It was produced by Mark Burg and Oren Koules of Twisted Pictures and distributed by Lionsgate. Saw VI concludes the second trilogy of the series that focused on the posthumous effects of the Jigsaw Killer and the progression of his successor, Mark Hoffman. In the film, Hoffman sets a new trap for an insurance executive, William Easton, while the FBI trails Peter Strahm, now suspected of being Jigsaw's last accomplice.

Greutert, who served as editor for all the previous Saw films, made his directorial debut with Saw VI. Melton and Dunstan, the writers for both Saw IV and V, returned to write the screenplay and Charlie Clouser, who provided the score for all previous Saw films, composed the score. The soundtrack mostly consists of heavy metal and hard rock music. Filming took place in Toronto from March to May 2009 with a budget of $11 million. Following its cinematic release, the film failed to garner any award nominations from mainstream motion picture organizations for its production merits or lead acting.

The film was released in New Zealand and Australia on October 22, 2009, and October 23 in the United States and Canada. In Spain it was the first film to receive a Película X rating for violence (a rating usually reserved for pornographic films); the rating restricted screenings to eight select theaters in that country. It was later released on October 8, 2010 in Spain with an "18" rating, after the producers had the offensive content edited out, according to the rating board. With gross receipts of US$14 million in its opening weekend, Saw VI placed second to Paranormal Activity's $21 million. Saw VI went on to gross over $64 million worldwide, the lowest-grossing Saw film to date, but still a financial success compared to its small budget. Reviews were mixed, with some criticizing the acting and others praising Greutert's directing.

Second best movie in the series next to Saw III. And get this -- there's some actual closure. Amazing, huh?

Loved it! A breath of fresh air compared to the horrible Saw V. My second favorite after the original.

I just got back from it and I thought it was very good. The traps were nice and the story moved along and actually had some closure. I don't think it's as good as the second or the third, but it's miles better than one, four or five. I definitely recommend it.

Miles better than the 1st SAW movie?? How so??? That's the movie that started it all.. How the hell could you beat the movie that started it all?? What surprise do they have left that would top the 1st film??? :funny:

:funny:

Sometimes sequels are better than the original. Just because a movie is first in the series doesn't automatically make it the best. I think the first is one of the worst by far. All of them besides the first and fourth were good.

The first wasn't very good at all. Besides Monica Potter, the acting was absolutely horrible and ruined the entire film.

I saw it tonight. It's the same old thing, but still solid. I'd say it's the third best in the series so far. It's a far cry from the third and not quite as good as the second.

If he doesn't watch it for the acting, then he shouldn't give a fuck and thus, that shouldn't be labeled as "ruining the movie" dumb fuck.. Good God :funny:

You are really a fucking moron, I don't have much else to say. I definitely do not watch the Saw franchise for the acting. But when the acting is so atrocious, it is going to ruin a flick no matter what. And don't give me this bullshit about that I shouldn't care. As a film lover, I'm always going to care about acting, direction, cinematography, etc. So pull your head out of your ass already.

Definitely looks like she says "Dr. Gordon's office?" to that guy vacuuming the hallway.

Really liked it. An overdue return to form after the boring parts 4-5 (3 is one of my favorites and probably still should have been the end of the series). The traps were diabolical in this and the plot was interesting in the way it connected everyone and everything. I really hope Dr. Gordon comes back in part 7 as that would make a brilliant twist to end it after Jill and Hoffman kill one another and just when you think it's over, he reappears. Only problem is Elwes' participation might be a problem.

Well, damn! Color me surprised. I have seen it at its German premiere (including a Q&A with Kevin Greutert), but aside from that interesting circumstance, I wasn't really looking forward to the film much as each of the Saw films until then was worse than the preceding one and there was little indication for this downwards spiral to stop.

Imagine my shock when I actually witnessed a pretty solid horror film! Of course, I am somewhat biased towards these films, but even among the series this was a sound imrpovement over the fourth and the fifth films. It was clearly the best one since Saw III, almost reaching that one's quality. I always thought that killing off Jigsaw at the end of Saw III meant the series' downfall. Sure, there were still flashbacks, but seriously, how many flashbacks can you have over several new instalments? Well, Saw VI was the first Saw film that actually worked quite well without Jigsaw. The flashbacks were nice, once again, but they were not what made this movie rather good.

I simply liked the plot. It finally seemed like a real game again and a pretty interesting one at that. For the first time in a while, the focus was not just on gruesome traps (though there are enough f those too!), but on creating suspense and setting up a good climax. And it WAS a good climax. The film provided some closure and while I didn't have Saw 3D, I wish this was where the series had ended. It was a perfect finish. Sure, the film itself has a lot of flaws. Costas Mandylor is still extremely ineffective as a villain, not menacing at all. I wasn't that much involved in all the other characters' fates either, but yet, the director managed to create some suspense just thanks to well set-up scenes during the game. The idea of Jill testing Hoffman at the end is great too.

So, not a great film, but sometimes it appears to be just thanks to the improvement over the predecessors.

I finally got around to seeing 4-6, still need to see 7, but Carey Elwes back made me want to at least check the others yet.

IV still felt like it was part of the series, with a character around for 2 other films, and after the mess that was III, it was at least an interesting tie in film. V basically felt like a DTV sequel with characters merely there in a rehash of #2's funhouse idea, but less interesting.

Which brought me to VI, despite seeing this rather recently, I had to strain really hard to even remember it. Now I think I remember some of it. The series is just loosing interest now with no good original characters yet. The FBI girl not being dead was retarded, and the story of the kid and mother and the guy just felt a crummy rehash of III. The twist was better than the V and III, and it at least seemed more focus this time around, I'm glad it took me this long to watch the 2nd trilogy of saw.

Saw ratings so far

Saw- 7.5
SawII- 8
SawIII- 5.5
SawIV-6
SawV- 4.5
SawVI-6

The series has been pretty consistent (Average) since the 2nd film
