Post Re: Bringing Out the Dead
Often too playful and flashy, especially when viewed in light of its dark subject matter, but it does a great job transplanting Scorsese's and Schrader's vision of New York from the 70s to the 90s. It's essentially a remake of Taxi Driver, but it does it terrifically.

It's also kind of an interesting Christmas Carol parallel, if you choose to look at it that way. Each of Cage's ambulance partners could be said to correspond to one of the Dickens spirits, showing him his past, present, or future. I thought, at least.

Great flick.

Post Re: Bringing Out the Dead
Strange movie, but also kinda great. It starts off being just a dark and depressing look at the night life of NYC and a paramedic haunted by all the horror he's seen on these streets. Sounds like a really heavy Denis Villeneuve movie right? But this is Marty, so he tries to find ways to make it funny and mostly succeeds. Cage was perfect choice for an everyman losing his mind amongst this setting. And yet he always has a connection to what little humanity remains. My favorite part was when he tricked the suicidal water guy into coming to the hospital by promising to give him pills which will "kill him." Then, after picking up another patient he tells him "back up or I swear I won't kill you." :funny:

Bringing Out The Dead earns an 8.3/10 from me.
