National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
National Lampoon's Christmas VacationQuote: Christmas Vacation is a 1989 Christmas comedy film directed by Jeremiah S. Chechik. It is the third installment in National Lampoon's Vacation film series, and was written by John Hughes, based on his short story in National Lampoon Magazine, Christmas ‘59. The title song was written for the movie by the husband-wife songwriting team of Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil and was performed by Mavis Staples of The Staple Singers fame.
Since its release in 1989, Christmas Vacation has been ranked on many lists of "Top 10 Favorite Christmas Films" and is considered a modern holiday classic.

Re: Christmas Vacation
Easily the best of the Vacation series, and also the only one worth watching. It's pretty funny almost all the way through.

I'm shocked it took 4 years for this to get a review thread.
My favorite Christmas theme movie ever.

I can understand not liking European or Vegas and I can understand putting this one ahead of the first, but you didn't find it to even be worth watching? As for CV I watched it on Christmas Eve. It didn't work quite as well as I remembered from the last time I saw it, but it's still a very funny movie. Once Clark begins to put up the Christmas lights and especially when Cousin Eddie shows up, the film really begins to work as well as it should, the last third especially. I couldn't stop laughing when the cat exploded. Chevy's last very good film - ***1/2

Christmas Eve tradition. Always love it. I think I can recite each line from memory by now.

Re: National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
I think all the vacation films are worth watching. European and Vegas are a little more farcy and certainly more 2nd rate jokes but they are still quotable and fun films to watch. This and the original are just awesome though. They get the two easiest relatable films if you've ever been there, and they just get everything right. The lack of the R rating makes it slightly less great than Vacation but the re addition of Hughes brings back the heart.
A+ It's hard not to say this isn't one of the best christmas films, if not the best.

Re: National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
Yep, it's a great comedy and best of the series - - but as for it being the best ever Xmas comedy - - naaah! (It's actually the #3 best Xmas comedy movie, behind #2 Surviving Christmas and #1 Bad Santa.)

Re: National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
Having watched Surviving Christmas, I'm not sure I'd rank it #2, but it's certainly an underrated flick.
Bad Santa is genius. The best anti-jolly Christmas movie.

Re: National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
Surviving Christmas?????? With Ben Affleck, come on now. Just Friends is a hilarious christmas movie, Surviving Christmas is the shoulder shrug of holiday films

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
I was told this was the best one! lol. Something is off with this series that just makes them terribly unfunny. Ok, a few times something works, but on the whole they are lame in the humour department. The editing, the pacing, I don't know but something isn't right. Most of the sequences are just silly. Is this made for tweens? Nonsensical comedy, and it's a shame because Chase is a talented presence of comedy. This one was just a bit worse than the first two. Nice to see Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Juliette Lewis, but apart from that the other supporting cast were annoying.
Not really looking forward to Vegas Vacation now.
