Die Hard
Die HardQuote: Die Hard is a 1988 American action film and the first in the Die Hard film series. The film was directed by John McTiernan and written by Jeb Stuart and Steven E. de Souza. It is based on a 1979 novel by Roderick Thorp titled Nothing Lasts Forever, itself a sequel to the book The Detective, which was previously made into a 1968 film starring Frank Sinatra. The film was produced by Lawrence and Charles Gordon, along with Joel Silver.
It stars Bruce Willis as NYPD officer John McClane, Bonnie Bedelia as his wife, Holly, and Alan Rickman as thief Hans Gruber. The film was followed by three sequels; Die Hard 2 in 1990, Die Hard With A Vengeance in 1995, and Live Free or Die Hard in 2007.

For some reason, I am not as in love with it as the other posters in this thread seem to be, but technically this is a perfect action movie and a very entertaining one with good performances above that.

Personally I think it was great but part of the greatness was that it was not a terrorist movie at all, it was a heist film. That twist was not duplicatable so naturally the sequels and copy cats failed to give the same excitement.

I tried watching Die Hard over and over again but it doesnt quite sink in to me. I find it overated and never really exciting. I always thought the Lethal Weapon movies are vastly superior to Die Hard

The best movie Willis has ever been in, it's the ultimate template for how action movies should be made.

The action movie of the last twenty years. Everything, from the story to the acting to the direction, is exceptional for an action flick. Instantly rewatchable, quotable, and memorable.

Can't believe I didn't review this yet.
Fantastic. One of the best action films ever created. It's too bad we don't see films like this anymore.

A... of course.
Just don't have my rate the sequel.
Fortunately, 3rd times a charm.

What a strange statement considering, you know, Dia Hard 4 hitting two months from now.
Die Hard does rock pretty hard. In fact, Die Hards 1-3 are all pretty much perfect examples of the form.

Completely true! And even more reasons to be utterly afraid of whatever is coming and is named Die Hard or Live Free!
Every time i see trailer one more time, more i am assured the crap it is.

Im assured just the opposite, especially with the tv spots. The action looks spectacular, the one liners look great, and There still expanding on the McClaine saves more in each film. First a building, then an airport, then NYC, and now the United States.
Looks a lot better than Mi3 in my oppinion, and I thought that was pretty good.

When I think of complimentary things to say, the first that comes to mind is not "Looks a lot better than MI3!"

A few people on here may not like the JJ Abrams of MI3, but I think the majority of people think its pretty good. I know ver little that think its not better than the atrocious 2nd.

McClane looks to sure of himself, which is more emphasized by presence and lines of Justin Long. John McClane is a loony wacko, unstable and never selfaware. The line "Have you seen this-No, I've done that" and likes are totally opposite.
The only action scene seems to be car crashing in helicopter!
And the hole concept, Live free and blablabla, seems to banal and transparent. Cheap.
Die Hard serial in a way, with couple similar movies, anticipated whole 9/11 scenario. Today it's completely different situation, and my humble opinion is that it doesn't play to it. After all bad guy seems to be American!

Thats not the line, its "Yes I saw it, I did it" Thats hardly selfaware, except of what he just did.

A phenomenal action film that is exciting and intense from beginning to end. Bruce Willis and especially Alan Rickman give great performances. Love this one.
