Vegas Vacation
Vegas VacationQuote: Vegas Vacation is a 1997 comedy film. It is the fourth film in the original Vacation film series centering around the fictitious Griswold family, following Vacation, European Vacation, and Christmas Vacation. Chevy Chase reprises his starring role as Clark W. Griswold, the patriarch of the family. The film opened at #4 at the box office and grossed over $36.4 million domestically. This is the only theatrical Vacation film not to be sponsored by National Lampoon.

Re: Vegas Vacation
I like this film, on its own its a pretty good sequel, and I think it gets by on the fact that the actors know their characters well. The two new kids I think are the best since the original set, and Vegas is a very fun place to have satire at. All and all, its a faint light of what Chevy Chase used to be.

Re: Vegas Vacation
Nowhere near as funny as the original or Christmas, but I'd say this is about as good as European was. It's good for a few laughs here and there, but it's nothing special. I think what was missing was John Hughes. I don't think it's a coincidence that he happened to write the two best films in the series.
I'm kind of surprised they haven't attempted a fifth movie by now. What else are Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo doing?

Re: Vegas Vacation
Criminally unfunny.
But I did like this exchange (paraphrased):
Clark: Eddie, did anyone ever tell you you were bad luck?
Eddie: You know, those were my mother's dyin' words. But when your foot's caught in a beartrap and you're covered in third degree burns, you tend to start talking crazy.

It's not as good as the previous Vacation movies, but I liked it.

The dumbest of the Vacation movies, which is saying something.

Trixster I'm extremely impressed and even a little bit imitated with your vigour in exploring shitty movies from the last twenty-thirty years. Can I ask what's driving you to watch so many sub-par movies? Morbid fascination? Or have you seen all the good ones already?

Re: Vegas Vacation
I haven't been watching these all recently, I'm merely reviewing them. Or at least briefly commenting on them.

Re: Vegas Vacation
Vegas Vacation was really funny when it came out and I was 12. Haven't seen it in a good decade though. I'm curious to see how it holds up.

Re: Vegas Vacation
I bought the box set, and the most surprising is I remember hating European but watching it recently its still pretty good (The kids are easily the worst of the entire series though)
I'm a sucker for Vegas movies, and Beverly D Angelo was still gorgeous in this movie. Definitely the weakest of the 4 I would say, but still entertaining to watch when on tv.

Re: Vegas Vacation
They should make another VACATION movie and this time, use the kids from the 1st movie now that there all grown up and as a result, they can poke fun at this aspect of having 2 different actors to play them in past movies...

Re: Vegas Vacation
I always enjoyed Vegas Vacation more than European Vacation. And both films don't come close to the original Vacation or Christmas Vacation (my favorite).

Vegas Vacation
I laughed only once (less than the previous three) but overall I enjoyed this film more. It seems more wholesome of an idea. Beverly D'Angelo is smoking in the Wayne Newton gold outfit, and Marisol Nichols is just gorgeous.

Re: Vegas Vacation
I think there are a lot of great moments in this movie.
I've been to Casinos that has had games like War, Pick a Hand, and pick a number. These places are ridiculous. And you lose it like he does.
Of all the ones, this is stifled by its non R rating. But this is an extremely rewatchable film. I also think it might be the most quotable of the films despite it once again ranking 3rd for me. But the Blackjack dealer is awesome. My brother interviewed him once, and said no one comes up to me without saying Inconceivable or Changing 1600! I think his best line is "Buy a bullet and rent a gun"
