Varsity Blues
Varsity BluesQuote: Varsity Blues is a 1999 American drama/sport film directed by Brian Robbins that follows a small-town high school football team and their overbearing coach through a tumultuous season. The players must deal with the pressures of adolescence and their football obsessed community while having their hard coach on their back constantly. In the small town of West Canaan, Texas, football is a way of life, and losing is not an option.
Varsity Blues drew a domestic box office gross of $52 million. Its budget was estimated at $16 million. It was later parodied in the 2001 film Not Another Teen Movie, in which Ron Lester reprised his role of Billy Bob by playing a near identical character named Reggie Ray.

I guess I'm just repeating what has been said, but it is a very fun football movie. Jon Voight was great.

Re: Varsity Blues
I like it for two scenes: Ali Larter in a whipped cream bikini and the health teacher as stripper. Yeah, that's right.

I give it a 10, a 10, a Fucking 10!
More like an 8 but probably the best teen sports film ever made.

Re: Varsity Blues
Decided to re-watch this, having fond memories of it and it's still pretty good. It's a great paradigm for a small football crazed Texas town and delivers entertainment throughout. It gives us an iconic moment like whipped cream covered Ali Larter and the strip club scene is perhaps the best/ raunchiest in cinema history. I really like they decided to make this R-rated and attach its explicitness. Aside from Jon Voight, who is really great, probably would give him a supporting acting nom that year, the film comes up short acting wise. Best example being James van der Beek, who just doesn't have the charisma to pull of the role well (loved him in Dawson's Creek though), and the locker room speech by him at the end doesn't land because of it. Probably he and Walker should have reversed roles. Nonetheless I'm a sucker for sports films and this is a truly cool one.
