Re: Cars
I find it flagrantly overrated. I used to try to defend this as a still good film despite obv being pixar's worst. But, it's just, like, not good. Flashy, almost entirely entertainment focused, no depth, no interesting characters, no emotion. Shiny, flashy, shallow, bad. 4/10or*1/2or2/5orC-

Exactly. If they don't know how to behave, and feel OK offending others, they get their ass kicked, so they'll think next time before opening their rotten mouths.

Re: Cars
It's not super-memorable, but I thought its affection for Americana was legitimate and heartfelt. So I disagree with Michael A's assessment.

Dude, srly please watch this movie again

Re: Cars
Really excellent kid flick. It's not one of Pixar's best efforts, but I'd rank it over A Bug's Life, Wall-E, Cars 2, Monsters University, and The Good Dinosaur. Brave is better though.

Re: Cars
I'd still agree with my above comments. The character design here really pops, probably moreso than in any Pixar film other than the Toy Storys. The story isn't as deep or mature as the earlier Pixar flicks, but the cinematography of the racing sequences are as exciting as any of the action sequences in the Incredibles. It is really just too long, other than that it's a really good kid's movie.

Your detailed review didn't sound like the one for A graded movie.

Re: Cars
So I was watching this earlier with my son. Sort of half-watching, but enough to get a good idea of its quality (and I'm sure I'll be able to fill in any gaps with the expected half-a-million more views!). Anyway, it's pretty darn average. One thing I thought was bad was the final decision by Lightning McQueen to not roll that extra metre and win the race, but to go back for the old dude and push him to the finish line. It's utterly stupid. Literally 5 seconds before that he was gleeful at victory, then the sudden change. Not to mention, he could have done both. He had plenty of time to cross the finish line, win the race, then go back and push the oldie to victory also. Kind of annoyed me. I'd give the film about a C

Re: Cars
I had very bad memory of this and never watched it after my first view but after my latest watch I have more respect for this movie. Its not a classic but there are some really good action scenes in here. The problem is that the whole racing act never becomes anything because there are too many arcs in the movie. In trying too much it never does any of those things great. The visuals are amazing though and the design of Cars after these many years are still great. I also didn't love the ending even though I can understand they wanted to send a message that winning isn't everything but that would have been good if McQueen have been winning left and right in the beginning.
