Kiss Kiss Bang Bang >>>>>>> The Dark Knight
source material fans are the worst. Harry Potter book fanatics actually think Prisoner of Azkaban is the worst film of the series, it makes me want to puke sometimes.
On a side note, after years of Kingsley continually embarrassing himself in mainstream films, most call him the #1 way to depreciate quality in your film, he really shines. Same with Guy Pearce, after passing on so many films, it's nice to seem him start appearing more often in mainstream films.

Re: Iron Man 3
I think Black would be the perfect candidate for one of the SW standalone films, especially maybe the Han Solo prequel. I always worried about Black doing this. Sure he wrote the book on mainstream writing, and created so many great films, but Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is far from mainstream. I was happy he was able to do the mainstream elements (The action, humor, entertainment) was on par or even better than Favreau and Whedon.

Oh, and the best decision of the entire film is the use of Eiffle 65 in the beginning. Perfect song choice to capture 1999.

Mandarin's reaction to being mistreated by Shane Black, obviously just the first clip.

Re: Iron Man 3
Captain America is the only one I would call truly great as a standalone genre film.

I will say that this film helps reinforce just how amazing Nolan's Batman trilogy is. These Marvel films don't come even close.
+1

There is nothing standalone about it, it was made, purely as to introduce him for Avengers. The first 30 minutes are good, the rest is, ok, backstory for the Avengers film so you at least know who he is, and Chris Evans isn't a complete douche like he was in everything he's ever done.

Re: Iron Man 3
To me, it feels very separate from the mechanized corporate drive of the other films. It has an Indiana Jones style flair. A very fun period adventure movie.

It starred the dude from Fight Club, the girl from Empire Records, and the dude from Reservoir Dogs.

At first it felt that way, but by the second half, it lost all of its charm and kinda became hollow, a clear fuel for the Avengers.

I think the firsr Iron Man is a great superhero film even with the lame villain. Avengers I really enjoy mostly just for the geek pornness of it.
The first Iron Man is one of the best origin stories ever in comic book films. If the villain had been great, it'd be one of the all-time best.

Re: Iron Man 3
Seriously, though, why do the villains in the Avengers-universe suck?! The only one that is pretty damn good is Loki, but not even so much in Thor as in The Avengers. Still, the strongest Avengers-villain is still weaker than any of the main TDK-villains (Two-Face, Joker, Bane, Scarecrow, Ra's al-Ghul). The villains matter so much for the quality of comic book adaptations, especially once the origins have been told.
