Great time at the movies. Pattinson gives a real a-list moviestar performance. And the design on the aliens are really neat and you gotta love them even though they are hideous insects.

But there's alot holding it back too. Mark Ruffalo is miscast here. He's playing the character as if auditioning to be the next Trump on SNL. I wish Avenue 5 had never existed so they could have saved Hugh Laurie for this film. And usually BJHs movies have a bit more than "capitalism is bad" so that makes me think I must have missed something but maybe not?

Spoiler: show
The fakeout ending didn't really work for me either.

I'll give it a 7.5. A good score, but a bit of a comedown from a guy whose last 3 films were all 9s or higher.

This movie is less than the sum of its parts, but still mostly enjoyable and certainly memorable. It has a great central premise, and the world building is excellent. From a technical and acting perspective it’s mostly flawless. The script is incredibly fragmented though, and the many subplots feel like they don’t tie into each other well. As a result the film feels VERY long. The whole third act where they’re harvesting alien tails for sauce was unnecessary, tacked on and if it was removed the film could’ve been a breezy hour 45.
